Strategy
| This section details unofficial strategies that may help with completion of the chapter. This may not work for everybody. |
You face enemy Myrmidons, Soldiers, Fighters, and Brawlers in this battle, so have your directly controlled characters be Shez, Dedue, Ashe, and a Soldier (presumably Dimitri). While it doesn't take effect until you promote to Archer, bows beat fists in this game, so it's good to get used to that.
Your first objective will be to take control of the southwestern and southeastern strongholds. They have a Myrmidon and a Fighter respectively, so send your Soldiers to take the former and Shez and Felix to take the latter. Once they go down, the castle town will open up and you will be tasked with clearing out the enemy forces in the area. Have your Soldiers continue to take out the enemy Myrmidons and send Shez and Felix to take the Main Gate Plaza to complete the side mission and open the southern gate. Then they can start wiping out the Fighters. Meanwhile, assume direct control of Ashe and take out the Brawlers in the northeast corner of the map.
Once you have control of the castle town, Viscount Kleiman and his goons challenge you. Have Ashe finish off the northeast, seize the stronghold, and hold position in said stronghold. Meanwhile, have Dedue take out Kleiman and his Soldiers and then send him to pick off the Soldier in the northwest. Alternately, you can have your Soldier use Knightkneeler to splatter him. Once Kleiman goes down, the inner town opens up. Have your swordsmen clean house as you've been doing. One of the remaining Fighters drops a Chest Key, so send someone to take the chest in the center west. Send your Soldiers north to infiltrate the castle and seize the Treasure Vault and Arsenal. Then pull the switches to lower the drawbridges (you can do this with an order). This will allow you to finally take on Rufus and Cornelia. Have Ashe mop up the last Brawlers, Dedue fight his way northwest to face Rufus, and send everyone else to overwhelm Cornelia.
