Enemy Corrupted fromFire Emblem Engage.
I hate [The Corrupted]. They have killed many of my sisters and my brothers. If I lose to you, they will kill me. No... No, they will kill me, in time, no matter what.
— Alear

TheCorrupted (Japanese:異形兵Grotesque soldier) are a type of undeadmonster created fromhuman corpses. Created by the powers of theFell Dragons, they became feared amongstElyos. They primarily serve as an army for the Fell DragonSombron, and are occasionally employed by the army ofElusia, which worships Sombron.

Overview

Characteristics

All Corrupted share a set of characteristic physical traits: pale skin with glowing red cracks, black armor, a black external spine with glowing points, and a helmet with a single, glowing red eye that hides most of their face. Corrupted frequently exhale a black smoke, likely tied to the dark magic fuelling them, and evaporate into clouds of red mist, leaving no physical trace behind when slain. Though undead, Corrupted appear to have finite "lives" and can be killed in similar ways to humans without necessitating that the body be damaged beyond continued function or repair. The Corrupted primarily practicethe same forms of combat as humans, though there also exist non-human Corrupted that parts of their own bodies to attack. These non-human Corrupted includewyrms, wolves, andwyverns.

Most Corrupted lack sentience, and are driven entirely by aggression or their masters' orders. They are largely incapable of speech, instead growling and snarling at their enemies. A rare few Corrupted, such as the CorruptedMorion, are capable of limited speech, largely restricted to short sentences. Certain more refined Corrupted, such as those produced byVeyle, are far closer in appearance and behavior to the Corrupted's original selves when they were first alive. They tend to briefly regain memories of their former lives when they die.

History

The Corrupted served asSombron's subordinates during the first Fell Dragon war. They reappeared shortly before the events ofEngage[1], when Sombron was about to return. They act as his soldiers once more, comprising the majority of his forces. They are created by both Sombron himself and his daughterVeyle under the influence ofZephia, with the Corrupted created by Veyle acting more life-like than the ones created by Sombron himself. As he hungers for more power, more people are turned into Corrupted, including the king ofBrodia,Morion, and the king ofElusia,Hyacinth, as well as an unspecified amount of Elusia's citizens. After Sombron collects all twelveEmblem Rings, he is able to create life-like Corrupted of his own who act in his service, including the Divine Dragon queenLumera.

In the alternateElyos of theFell Xenologue, almost all inhabitants of Elyos were turned into Corrupted byRafal. Although they act almost like the originals, they serve as his soldiers as he attempts to obtain the sevenEmblem Bracelets.

In gameplay

Similarly to theRisen inFire Emblem Awakening, the Corrupted function mostly identically to usual generic human enemies. They almost universally possess the same classes, stats and weapons as their human counterparts, and are distinguished primarily with semi-unique battle models granting them their undead physical appearance. Unlike the Risen, however, all Corrupted receivebonus damage from effective weapons that target them.

InEngage, small bands of Corrupted fight alongside other human soldiers in Chapters8,9,10, and20. They comprise almost all of the enemy units in Chapters1,4,11,12,13,15,19,21,22,23,24,25, and26, and in theparalogueBudding Talent. Additionally, hordes of Corrupted appear on theworld map to be fought inskirmishes. They will appear either as Gold Corrupted, which dropgold upon defeat, or as Silver Corrupted, which grant a large amount ofexperience upon defeat.
