Conrad (Japanese:コンラートConrad) is apaladin appearing inFire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia. He was not present inFire Emblem Gaiden and is a new addition to the cast introduced in the remake. He isCelica's elder brother who vanished after the fire that killed many of his siblings. He has lived and honed his skills in hiding with his mother andHalcyon inSage's Hamlet for several years.

Conrad is the only character to join Celica's party that is in thecavalier class line by default, being apaladin. He is the latest joining character in Celica's group, joining afterNomah, who holds that status in the originalGaiden.

TheValentia Accordion art book implies that after the foundation of the One Kingdom of Valentia, he was the one who providedZeke the mask he wore during his time in Archanea under the alias "Sirius".

• InEchoes: Shadows of Valentia, promotion gains give the character as many points as necessary—the "x" value shown in the table—to reach the promoted class' base stats. If the character's stats are higher than their promoted class' base stats, they will not receive any bonus; however, ifall stats are higher, then they will receive +1 to HP.

Analysis

Conrad joins near the end ofCelica's route as a level 7Paladin, when most of the other units in the army will likely have reached their final promotions by this point and his poor availability makes it hard for him to promote toGold Knight beforeDuma Tower. Additionally, Conrad's bases aren't particularly good apart from his high resistance. Conrad is near useless forThe Swamps of Duma Battle due to his movement, but forStorming of Duma Gate he can killWitches or chip theArcanists with aJavelin orSaunion so the whitewings can finish them off. In theLost Treescape and Duma Tower is also a decent filler unit, though whether he will be able to fit himself in depends on how many other units have been trained up.

There are two different variations of Conrad available toHeroes, both of which are tied to his storyline appearance inEchoes: Shadows of Valentia. The normal variation of Conrad is one of the characters added to the game in theLethal Swordsman update, and was made available to players in the thirty-sixthGrand Hero Battle, which initially ran from October 24, 2019 through November 2, 2019. A Valentine's variation of Conrad was made available between February 7, 2020 and March 6, 2020 as part of the summoning event surrounding the launch of theLovely Gifts update.

The Valentine's variation of Conrad is the first character to make use of a new facet of summoning introduced with the Lovely Gifts update, in that he is summonable at both four- and five-star rarity during the banner adding the variation to the game. By extension, the Valentine's variation of Conrad is the first alternate-variation character to be summonable at four-star rarity, as all prior alternate-variation characters with a four-star non-primary variation had said non-primary variations be distributed as rewards in eitherGrand Hero Battle orTempest Trials.

In his youth, Conrad was quite fond ofCelica andLiprica, as they were the members of theZofian royal house that treated him with the most kindness. In general, he and his mother were treated coldly due to theirRigelian origins. Conrad's mother was a Rigelian noble wed toLima IV in exchange for food to be sent from Zofia to Rigel.^[1] Additionally, due to knowing Celica from a young age, he has a strong tendency to refer to her by her real name, Anthiese. Conrad initially thought Celica died in the fire that killed the rest of his siblings, increasing his attachment to his remaining sister upon realizing that she had survived.

As a child, Conrad fell for the frightening stories his mother told him, and was afraid that he would be spirited away to Fear Mountain because he had broken a vase and not told anyone.

Post-war, Conrad put down his lance and took up a quill, beginning a long career as a civil servant. Following Mycen's retirement, he became chancellor, shepherding Valentia's prosperity for years. Despite an endless chain of suitors, he remained single all his life.

Conrad: Masked Knight
Here's Conrad, the mysterious masked knight who makes the occasional dramatic appearance to save Celica from danger!	In truth, Conrad is actually Celica's older brother, who was separated from her when they were very young, and raised in Sage's Hamlet. That means he has a connection to Zofian royalty!	When it came to helping Celica out, Conrad wasn't just there for the fighting. He tested her resolve on her path to becoming queen, and supported her when she had her doubts. He really looks out for her.	So it's no surprise that under the mask, Conrad looks very kind and gentle. I hope that he makes one of his appearances the next time the Order of Heroes is in a tight spot!

Ooh, who's this dashing yet suspiciously familiar Hero? …Ah ha! It's Conrad, and he's not wearing his mask for a change! He's here to make a splash at the Day of Devotion!	Conrad usually wears white armor, and he's kept that look for the festival to add a noble touch. Being the Prince of Zofia, I guess you could say this comes naturally to him!	The accessory on his hat is a sprig of rowan berries. The rowan berry is a symbol of protection! That's a thoughtful choice, seeing as he's always been looking out for Celica.	Oh, and I smell something sweet coming from that present box he's carrying… Just imagine how delighted Celica will be when she finds out what's inside!
