Class change/Nintendo Switch games
This sub-page covers theclass change stats for theNintendo Switch games:Fire Emblem: Three Houses andFire Emblem Engage.
Fire Emblem: Three Houses
Class changing is achieved by completing certification exams, which require specific skill levels and seals. There are now four tiers of classes available:
- Beginner classes: Available starting from level 5, requiring
Beginner Seals - Intermediate classes: Available starting from level 10, requiring
Intermediate Seals - Advanced classes: Available starting from level 20, requiring
Advanced Seals - Special classes: Available starting from level 20, requiring
Abyssian Exam Passes. These areDLC exclusive. - Master classes: Available starting from level 30, requiring
Master Seals. These are only options if the player has reachedProfessor level C.
Units can attempt a certification exam for any of these tiers if their level is high enough and they have the appropriate seal. These exams can be taken if a unit's skill level is not quite high enough, though this reduces the chances of the unit actually passing the exam and gaining access to the new class. A certification exam cannot be attempted if the unit's chance of passing it is less than 30%. The pass rate for certification exams is calculated using the formula below:[1]
Pass rate = (100 − a × b) + (Unit's Luck stat / 2)a = 40 for Beginner, Intermediate, and single-skill level Advanced classes = 32 for multi-skill level Advanced classes = 20 for Master classesb = total number of lacked skill levels ("+" levels count as 1, entire letter levels count as 2)Completing an exam also does not forcibly switch the unit to the new class, instead prompting the player if they would like to do so themselves. Upon passing a certification exam, the unit will have their base stats boosted to the class's base stats if they are lower, like inShadows of Valentia. Changing classes will also provide the unit various class stat modifiers, as well as bonuses or penalties to certaingrowth rates. A unit's level is not reset upon class changing or gaining access to a class.
There are two classes that require a seal not related to their class's tier; theDark Mage andDark Bishop instead require theDark Seal. Additionally, some specific classes are available only through events, and do not require passing an exam to obtain them.Byleth gains access toEnlightened One after completingChapter 10.Edelgard,Dimitri, andClaude all automatically switch to new classes at the start of Part 2: these classes areArmored Lord,High Lord, andWyvern Master respectively. They later also gain access to stronger versions of these classes, those beingEmperor,Great Lord, andBarbarossa. Additionally, theDancer class is made available to a unit if they win the White Heron Cup inChapter 9.

Fire Emblem Engage
Class change is achieved by using aMaster Seal at level 10 or higher. Personal classes only have one option, while generic classes have two. Class changing requires havingproficiency for the weapons of the new class. Each promoted class has a uniqueskill that is learned at level 5, and is lost whenreclassing to a new class.
Many classes have multiple versions with different weapon proficiencies. For example, there are three versions ofGeneral that wield one of swords, lances or axes; and there are two versions of Hero that wield swords and lances, or swords and axes. These versions are chosen between when changing class, and units only need the proficiency for their chosen variation of the class.
