Chloé (pronounced /ˈkloʊ.eɪ/[key][3]; Japanese:クロエChloe) is a royal knight ofFirene and retainer to PrincessCéline, alongsideLouis. Despite being a noble who was raised to marry well, she chose to pursue the fairy-tale lifestyle of being a knight defending her princess. After being ambushed atFlorra Mill Town, she and Louis fought to cover their lady's escape.
Chloé is a playable character inFire Emblem Engage.
Biography
Main story
Chloé was born the daughter of aFirenese marquis from a seaside town. Due to her noble status, as well as her older brother being set to inherit the family name before her,[1] she grew up being raised to marry well and devote herself to her partner’s family. Because of her controlled upbringing limiting her freedom, she developed the desire to live an exciting, extraordinary, and liberated life.[4] Though she was raised on high cuisine, she first encountered folk food during a Firenese festival and, enraptured by the experience, began eating it behind her parents’ backs.[5] She also owned a pegasus from a young age.[6]
Chloé first met PrincessCéline at a harbor, having missed a boat during one of her incognito escapades fromFirene Castle,[7] and offered to fly Céline wherever she pleased, unaware of her royal status. The two flew to a tea farm and became fast friends, going on many more adventures together afterwards.[8] Upon learning that Céline was a princess, Chloé became enamored with the fairy tale-esque nature of their encounter[9] and, seeing a possible path towards choosing a romanticized life for herself, began training to be the princess’s loyal pegasus knight.[10] She eventually passed the knighthood exam and became a royal knight of Firene as well as Céline’s retainer,[11] sharing the latter position withLouis.
When theElusian army attacked Firene Castle, she and Louis accompanied Céline toFlorra Port, ordered by Queen Ève to warn Prince Alfred of the attack, but were ambushed in town by an army ofCorrupted led by GeneralRodine. Both retainers chose to stay behind to cover their lady’s escape, who—after encounteringAlear and their army—returned and helped them defeat the Elusian army. Chloé joined the Divine Dragon’s army afterward, fighting in the war againstSombron, and remained by Céline’s side after the war concluded.
Fell Xenologue
Like her main counterpart, the Chloé from another world served as Princess Céline's retainer. During the second war against Sombron, she was sent on a reconnaissance mission, but was killed before making it back to Céline, though the Firenese royals never found her body.[12]
Fire Emblem Engage
Role
Chloé is a playable character. She joins automatically on turn 1 ofChapter 4, during which she andLouis are isolated from the main army on the center of the map. Her personal skill,Fairy-Tale Folk, grants her +2 damage output when in a 2-tile radius of one male and one female ally who are adjacent to each other.

Boasting solid all-around stats, Chloé will do well in any role the player chooses for her, though she prefers to deal damage with magic weapons than with physical weapons due to her higher magic growth and magic weapons generally being better. She will be the only flier available untilSecond Seals become buyable inChapter 9, and she won't need one to become aWyvern Knight or aGriffin Knight. Wyvern and Griffin are great classes for Chloé, the former improving her physical combat and the latter giving her staff utility, and if she wants to improve her magical combat she can reclass into aMage Knight. While Chloé has innate lance proficiency, this is only useful as a Wyvern, as Griffin and Mage Knight are both better with magic combat, andLevin Swords are much better thanFlame Lances. As with most pre-chapter 11 units, she has issues keeping up with the strong prepromotes the player gets in the Solm arc, but her ability to inherit strong skills likeCanter andSword Power that they won't be able to inherit gives her an edge over them that lets her stay relevant.
On the topic ofEmblem Rings, Chloe benefits immensely fromSigurd as he increases her movement and improving her combat withLance Power.Eirika is another strong option as Chloe 's mediocre strength can prevent her from one rounding most enemies, as such the effective damage against corrupted enemies and true damage offered by Eirika immensely improves her combat. Finally,Lucina allows Chloe to make use of her strong mobility along with the utility offered byBonded Shield.

There are two different variations of Chloé available inHeroes.
Personality
Chloé is a true romantic, obsessed with seeing fairy tales and picturesque scenes in her daily life.[13] While this desire sometimes causes her to get caught up in her own fantasies,[14][15] she never loses sight of the distinction between fiction and reality[16] and remains a dutiful and dedicated knight.[17] She dreams of living a fairy-tale life for herself, which originated as a fantasy opposing her noble, preplanned upbringing,[4] but became her goal in life after her romantic first encounter with Céline.[10] Despite having managed to become a princess’s knight and fight alongside the Divine Dragon, she does not believe herself to be a fairy-tale heroine,[18] remaining humble.[19][20]
She adores folk food due to the unique appetizing experiences they create,[5] alongside how they represent the local cultures in which they are found.[21] With its varied backgrounds and unique culinary characteristics, Chloé sees folk food as an art form in itself,[22] and is always happy to try new experiences.[23][24] Though she tries to spread her passion for it, much to the dismay of almost everyone,[25][26][27][28][29] she does recognize that the bold nature of folk food is not something everyone is able to digest.[30][31]
As a friend, Chloé is gentle and welcoming, being described as having “an aura of maternal sophistication”.[32] She is perpetually surrounded by friends,[33] happy to spend time with them and share in their excitement[34]—however, she also looks over them,[35] feeling a sense of protectiveness towards them.[36] She is quick to offer assistance or emotional support to others,[37] gently comforting them when they are down.[38] Despite this, she can also be a tease towards her close friends.[7][39]
Not much is known about the Fell Xenologue’s world’s version of Chloé, but she is described as quite different from the main Chloé, as well as having a notably plain taste in food.[40]

Fairy-Tale Flier Chloé
Chloé comforted the royal family and her fellow soldiers with deliveries of folk food. Soon, Firene's local delicacies started including more unusual flavors.
Years later, she met someone at a food stall, and they had a fairy-tale, whirlwind romance that blossomed into lifelong love.
Divine Dragon Alear & Fairy-Tale Flier Chloé
Alear became the new Divine Dragon Monarch. His/Her bonds with the rulers of each nation resulted in lasting peace.
Chloé was a steadfast and supportive partner to the busy new monarch. The love they shared spawned many a fairy tale for future generations.
