And thanks to you, I'm using my magic to help you all fight for peace and justice. I wouldn't give that up for anything!
— Charlot, toHannibal

Charlot (Japanese:シャルローSharlow) is the adoptive son of theThracian generalHannibal and the brother of the dancerLaylea. Trained as a priest of the Church ofBragi, he influenced Hannibal to defect and ally withSeliph's liberation army.

Charlot isCoirpre'ssubstitute character, filling his role in the story and gameplay ifSilvia died or failed to be married in the course of the first generation.

Biography

WhenSeliph's liberation army seized Meath with the intent of claiming the rest of Thracia, Charlot was held hostage by KingTravant in a bid to get Hannibal to co-operate with his orders to fight Seliph, and was left under the guard of GeneralDistler at Luthecia Castle. When Seliph conquered Luthecia, Charlot was freed and warned Seliph of Hannibal's plight. He joined Seliph's army and convinced Hannibal to stand down and accompany him.

Analysis

This character analysis section may not be accurate to every player's experience.

Charlot joins as a level 1Priest in Chapter 9; he replacesCoirpre ifSilvia was not married or died by the end ofChapter 5. Chalot is very under-leveled for a unit that joins so late; however, Charlot has theParagon skill, doubling hisexperience gain, allowing him to reach level 20 and promote toHigh Priest sooner. Staves such asWarp orReturn grant large amounts of experience, boosted further by Paragon; if Charlot is left at the home castle with another unit and repeatedly uses Warp or Return to send them to the home castle, Charlot can reach level 20 within one chapter. Upon promotion, his B rank in staves improves to A, and he gains C-rank in fire, thunder and wind magic. However, as Charlot has low HP and defense, relatively low speed, and lacksFollow-Up, he has weak combat and is only sporadically useful for it.

Charlot is unmounted, and does not get a mount upon promotion; the large maps ofGenealogy of the Holy War strongly favor mounted units. Additionally, Charlot has 5 movement—less than most other infantry's 6—even after promotion, and will fall behind most units; Charlot joins close to the front line in Chapter 9, but will fall behind in the chapters after. Charlot's low move limits his ability to useRescue to boost mobility, as most units could simply be ahead of him, and he will often fall to far behind to reach allies withPhysic orFortify. Every other staff-user but Lana has higher movement, especiallyNanna,Leif, andFee, who are mounted.

While Coirpre has the advantage of inheritance, Charlot has the advantage of Paragon. Coirpre will always inheritAdept andMiracle from Silvia, and can inherit other skills as well as staves from his father. On the other hand, Charlot is required to get the onlyBerserk staff available to the player; if Charlot waits next toHannibal in Chapter 9, he will receive Berserk. The Berserk staff has several niche uses in the second generation, such as berserkingArion inChapter 9 or a number of bosses inEndgame to fight their subordinates, making it easier for the player to defeat them. However, Berserk has only a single use and costs 30,000gold to repair, which Charlot will struggle to obtain without assistance from aThief orlover. Additionally, choosing to obtain Charlot over Coirpre requires choosingLaylea overLene; while Laylea hasCharm as a skill—which Lene cannot get—Lene has inheritance, allowing her access to a wider variety of skills and weapons and easier access to theLeg andKnight Rings.
