Ced (Japanese:セティSety) is the son ofErinys and brother ofFee; he is named afterCed, the WindCrusader. He is a playable character in bothFire Emblem: Genealogy of the Holy War andThracia 776. Raised in Silesse during its occupation by theGrannvale Empire, when his mother fell gravely ill he departedSilesse to find his missing father, to bring him to see her before she died. His way took him throughMunster, where he witnessed the suffering of the people and swore to do what he could to help. He joined theMagi, a then-struggling band of warriors devoted to fighting the oppression and helping the people, and led them to greater success in opposing the Munster occupation and in saving children from thechild hunts. He was later involved in the liberation armies of bothLeif andSeliph.
InGenealogy of the Holy War, if Erinys died or was not married in the course of the first generation, Ced'srole is filled byHawk. InThracia 776, Ced is the son ofLewyn—he wieldsForseti and is the prince of Silesse.
Biography
- Note: This biography describes the canon ofThracia 776 where it differs from that ofGenealogy of the Holy War—primarily, Ced is the son of Lewyn, and he liberates Munster with the aid of the Magi.
Search for his father
Ced and his sister,Fee, grew up in Silesse during its occupation by the forces of theGrannvale Empire.[2] The royal family spent the occupation living in the remote Tófa Castle in Silesse's far north, under the protection of Silessean rebels opposing the Empire.[2] Lewyn was present for at least part of their childhood, but eventually disappeared for reasons unknown to his family.[3] After several years, Erinys suffered a terminal illness which slowly killed her.[4] Believing Lewyn to be the only one able to heal Erinys, Ced left Silesse on a mission to find his father, leaving Fee behind.[4]
During his search, Ced entered the city ofMunster to follow up a rumor that Lewyn had been there within half a year prior.[5] He was deeply moved by the plight of Munster's people underRaydrik's rule and refused to let their suffering continue, and so put off his search for Lewyn to aid them.[5] He encountered and became involved with theMagi, a rebel band which had recently suffered a crushing defeat at the hands of Grannvale's forces, and became its leader and single-handedly turned its fortunes around, turning them into a force capable of successfully resisting the Empire.[6] During his time at the helm of the Magi, he took one of its members,Asbel, as his apprentice and taught him wind magic.[7]
Hero of Munster
In Grann 776, around the time thatLeif had been captured by Raydrik, Ced led a Magi invasion of the Munster palace dungeon; other members rescued those imprisoned on the dungeon floor—including Leif—while Ced and Asbel searched for imprisoned children. Once confirming the children were safe, he sent Asbel to assistLeif and led a small team of reinforcements to aid Leif's escape through the streets of Munster.
Over six months later, Leif returned to Munster with the intent to finally liberate it with a newLeonster army while his cousinSeliph fought inConnacht. News of Leif's approach provoked attempts to flee by the citizens of Munster, which Ced and the Magi assisted by fighting skirmishes with the Munster army throughout the city.[8] During the battles, he was approached bySaias, to whom he entrusted the protection of a number of citizens, as well as theBragi Sword to give to Leif. As Leif's army drew closer, Ced and the Magi successfully seized control of almost the entire city of Munster, with only a portion of the castle remaining under Raydrik's control.[9]
After Leif's army successfully liberated Munster, Ced joined Seliph's liberation army in their campaign through the rest of Thracia andJugdral as a whole. Following the final battle againstJulius in Belhalla, Ced returned to Silesse and was formally crowned as the King of Silesse.[b]

Analysis
This character analysis section may not be accurate to every player's experience. |
Joining about halfway through the second generation, Ced is a useful combat and support unit for almost any playthrough, regardless of his parentage. As a pre-promotedSage, his basemagic andspeed will be decent no matter what. Add in the fact that he always comes with theFollow-Up skill todouble attack and the high-mightLightning tome in his inventory, this lets him function right off the bat without any investment at all. The fact that he can also use B-rankstaves likeWarp andReturn is also helpful as he can use them to support the army and gain large sums ofexperience.
For his choices of fathers, Ced can inherit a number of useful skills or weapons to become even better than he already is, although some players would ideally choose fathers to bolster his sisterFee instead, as Ced will always turn out very good regardless of who his father is, due to being a prepromote. He fortunately does not need to inherit Follow-Up from a father, since he already does so by default asErinys's child, so choosing a father that grants other skills likeAccost orCritical can be worthwhile.
The classic, most easily attained pairing for Erinys isLewyn, as they will automatically fall in love through a talk conversation midway throughChapter 4 if they are not already married. Lewyn passes down majorForseti Holy Blood to Ced as well as theForseti tome and the Critical skill. With this set-up, Ced becomes a top tier combat unit who can often solo kill entire enemy brigades. However, an argument can be made that since Ced joins later in the game and because Forseti is somewhat overkill on him, that it is better to save Lewyn forArthur, who can use Forseti to fight difficult enemies and bosses before Ced's join time, such asDark Mages,Bloom, andIshtar, and can eventually get a horse upon promotion, granting him a boon in higher mobility andCanto that Ced cannot attain. However, Ced's stats will be better than Arthur's, so he will be better at killing late-game bosses such asArvis.
Another excellent choice isNaoise. Naoise's physical statline will leave Ced with lower base magic and a 10% magic growth. As stated previously though, Ced's base magic and Lightning tome still grant him very high attack. Naoise's main advantage is that he passes down the Critical and Accost skills, granting Ced the full spectrum of combat skills (Follow-Up,Adept, Accost, and Critical). With this setup, Ced can attack up to eight times in a single round of combat, and can score acritical hit on any one of those. Naoise is also a great father for Fee for these same reasons, and he is not in as high demand as Lewyn is. However, as with any physical father, Ced's lower magic means he cannot use status staves as well as with a magical pairing.
Another viable option for a father isClaud, who will bestow Ced with a ★ rank in staves by way of inheriting majorBragi Holy Blood, allowing him to use every staff in the game and grants him an excellentresistance base and growth along with the usual high magic stat. A Claude-fathered Ced would have a base resistance stat around the 20s, which makes him invulnerable against almost all enemy staff users, most of whom have magic stats ranging around 18 to 21, while being able to status them in return. Having major Bragi blood allows Ced to use theValkyrie staff, which can let him revive a singledead unit back to life before the staff needs to be repaired for another usage. Compared to Coirpre, the only other second generation unit who can use Valkyrie, Ced can much more easily acquire the money for the repair coverage of Valkyrie due to already being able to fight at base, which lets him participate inarena fights and can equip theThief's Band to automatically steal money from every enemy he attacks; Coirpre needs to promote to be able to do the same thing, which takes a lot of time and investment due to starting at level 1, unpromoted. Getting this pairing however, can be somewhat impractical in a first generation playthrough, since getting Claud and Erinys to fall in love with each other requires slowing down Erinys so that she can build up love points by being adjacent to Claud, limiting her contributions. Additionally, if someone needs to be revived, Ced would need to run back to the home castle (or have someone useWarp orReturn on him to send him there) to use the staff, after which, he will need to waste more time running back to the front lines and catch up with the rest of the army, which is exacerbated with having no mount andGenealogy's large maps.
Overall, Ced is a unit that is basically impossible to mess up. He will always be a useful contribution to any player.
Fire Emblem: Thracia 776
Role
Ced is a playable character. InChapter 4x, he, along withAsbel, appear as ally units. IfKarintalks to him, he will give her theCed Scroll. InChapter 6, if Chapter 4x wasn't played, Ced, along with nine other units, appear as ally units on turn 5. In both chapters, Ced'sForseti tome will have infinite durability.
InChapter 23, Ced appear as an ally unit. When a player unit ends their turn in the area around the seize point, ifAlphand is still alive, Ced will appear and automatically kill Alphand in a cutscene. Ced's death as an ally unit in this chapter causes aGame Over. He is recruited when talked to byLeif. If Ced is recruited,Saias will leave at the end of chapter. Hispersonal weapon isForseti.

Analysis
This character analysis section may not be accurate to every player's experience. |
As his introduction shows, Ced is an incredible combat unit with fantastic bases, mastery of almost every magic type (only being unable to use Dark tomes and lacking the rank forThoron andBolting at base), A-rank in staves, an authority star, 2 Action stars, good growths, a respectable FCM, and most notably theForseti tome. Thanks to the +20 speed Forseti gives, Ced is going to double every enemy inThracia easily, and if the enemy somehow survives a round of combat against him he still has adept to fall back on. Another important thing is that with the combination of his high skill base, Forseti's 30 crit and +20 skill, and his 3 FCM, he will get guaranteed criticals on his follow-up attacks. It even has 50 uses, so there is no risk of running out of uses outside of using it on everything, which he doesn't need to do thanks to his great bases and weapon ranks. He also has great utility due to his aforementioned A-rank staves and point of authority, and his access to the Blizzard tome, which puts enemies to sleep on hit. Ced's only weak point is his lackluster physical durability, but he is by no means a liability, and with Forseti equipped he will rarely be hit anyways. Overall, Ced is pretty much everything you could want from a unit that joins near the end of the game, being able to carry even the weakest teams to victory if used properly.
In comparison to Saias
Between the two, Ced undoubtedly has better combat, has higher HP which makes it harder for him to get fatigued, and is quite a bit more durable than Saias as well. Another thing worth noting is how Saias' one extra point of magic and additional action star matter little as they both offer nearly exact utility. The biggest advantage Saias holds are his three authority stars which significantly boost your units, and the fact that Saias saves you a turn since it takes one more turn to finish the chapter if the player desires to recruit Ced. Another aspect is that Ced's combat is largely overkill due to the low quality of most enemies in Thracia, and good combat units are not in short supply, though for certain bosses Ced's combat is without parallel, and the final chapter does require many strong combat units.
Fire Emblem Awakening
Role
Ced is playable as aSpotPass character, released in theGenealogy of the Holy War second-generation character set. He is also present as an enemy in thefirst andthird installments of theLost BloodlinesDLC series.
Despite ostensibly being his incarnation fromGenealogy of the Holy War, Ced inAwakening wieldsForseti like inThracia 776.

Personality
Ced possesses a strong devotion to the welfare of others, and despite having no stake in the fight for Munster he gave up on his search for his father in order to help the Munster people.[10] Even so, he is exceptionally hard on himself, as despite fighting his best he still considers himself a failure for being unable to save everyone.[11]
Ced is pained by seeing people's suffering. However, he does not believe himself to be better at helping others than the average person.[12] He also does not think he deserves his title, "Hero on the Wind", believing he has not earned it.[13] Ced does not want the burden of "hero" because he doubts he can live up to the title.
Ced believes that he only fought for Munster by circumstance, and that he has failed to stand against the Empire's oppression because he waited too long.[14] Ced compares himself toSeliph andAlfonse, saying that people like them are the true heroes; he claims their resolve is superior to his, and they are more prepared to leap into action than he is.[15] When Alfonse points out that Ced chose under difficult circumstances to stay and help Munster instead of retreating, Ced cannot deny the point.[16]
Ced wants his actions to have meaning and to build a future free of war.[17] Ced believes that anyone can find their way, no matter their origins, and applies this faith to himself as well.[18] However, he remains afraid of having pride, fearing that his mistakes will let other people down.[19]
Endings
Genealogy of the Holy War
If Lewyn was his father
In Silesse, which was for a long time under the control of the Empire, Ced, who returned to his country, succeeded to the throne, and devoted himself with all his strength to the reconstruction of the devastated country.
At his side,
His sweetheart,<wife>,
The Pegasus Knight Fee,
Smiled at him, filled with hope.
A beautiful land, and people who loved peace.
The Kingdom of Silesse, which Lewyn protected at the risk of his life, finally came here to completion.
Thracia 776
Ced, Crusader of Wind
Upon returning to Silesse, Ced at last took the throne, as the people had longed for him to do. With his indomitable spirit and tireless work ethic, the war-torn Silesse slowly regained its former beauty.

Trivia
- InFire Emblem: Genealogy of the Holy War, there is a bug with the stat inheritance system which causes stats to overflow; this could occur for any child, but only occurs for Ced. This can occur with two fathers: Lewyn may cause Ced's speed to overflow, andChulainn may cause Ced's skill to overflow. It is particularly likely to happen with Lewyn, as an overflow will occur if Lewyn gains any points of speed or if Erinys gains at least two.
- Ced is the only second generation child unit inGenealogy of the Holy War who starts as a prepromoted unit.
- According toThracia 776's website, Ced was designed to look 16 years old.[20]

Notes
- ↑1.01.11.21.31.41.51.6InThracia 776, Ced wieldsForseti andErinys is referred to as the Queen ofSilesse,[1] indicating Erinys andLewyn were wed, and Ced andFee are Lewyn's children and royalty of Silesse. InGenealogy of the Holy War, Ced's parentage and existence are subject to the player's actions.
- ↑Ced's actions after the defeat ofJulius inGenealogy of the Holy War vary depending on his father: if his father was nobility or royalty, Ced returns to his father's home (Silesse, ifLewyn is his father); if his father was not nobility or royalty, he returns to Silesse to aid in its reconstruction, and does not become its king.

Karin: The rebels have been keeping them safe. Everyone still willing to fight has gathered in the city of Tófa, where they've rallied around the royal family." —Leif andKarin inChapter 4,Fire Emblem: Thracia 776 - ↑"Lewyn: Oh, Ced. I guess you've found me. Been a while, huh? How's things?
Ced:' How's things? HOW'S THINGS?! Father, don't you realize? I've been searching for you for all this time! Do you even realize how long it's been since you ran away from home?
Lewyn: Oh, yeah. I guess it has been a few years... Hey, how's Erinys doing these days?

I couldn't do her any good just waiting at her side! Was I supposed to just sit there and watch her waste away?! So I... - ↑5.05.1"Karin: Then why are you leading some rebel group in Munster?!
Ced: I heard tell that my father had been here in Munster until half a year ago. I came here to pick up the trail, but it had gone cold. As I investigated, I discovered just how deeply the people of Munster suffered. I couldn't abandon them as my father had abandoned Silesse." —Karin and Ced inChapter 4x,Fire Emblem: Thracia 776 - ↑"'Fore he showed up, the Magi had been all but wiped out by the Empire... Then he showed up, an' just look at how the Magi are doin' now. The Empire keeps tryin' to grab hold of 'em, but they just keep lucking out. More'n luck, maybe. That's why Sir Ced's a man worth believin' in. Can't go wrong with a fella like that." — A prisoner inChapter 4,Fire Emblem: Thracia 776
- ↑"Asbel: You've spent this whole time teaching me, and I can't even help you in return? Some apprentice I turned out to be...
Ced: No, this is my choice, Asbel. It's no fault of yours. Besides, all I really taught you was that Grafcalibur spell. Do me proud, and use it to protect Prince Leif." —Asbel and Ced inChapter 4x,Fire Emblem: Thracia 776 - ↑"There, emboldened by news of Leif's victory, the citizens seized the opportunity to flee. However, they were caught in the crossfire of two forces: the Magi, led by Ced, who were trying to defend the civilians, and the Knights of Munster, who were determined to stop them." — Opening narration ofChapter 23,Fire Emblem: Thracia 776
- ↑"I am Ced of the Magi. We've taken control of the city, save for one wing of the castle. Surrender now and I'll spare your life." — Ced,Fire Emblem: Thracia 776
- ↑"Fee: I've been looking for you, of course! I mean, you've been gone from Silesse for so long, and we had no idea where you were!
Ced: I know, Fee, and I'm sorry... See, what happened was I was passing through Munster in my search for Father. I would've moved on, but the people's plight was nothing short of heartbreaking. I couldn't just leave Munster to waste away...
Fee: I should've known. That is so like you, Cedsy!" —Fee and Ced,Fire Emblem: Genealogy of the Holy War - ↑"The city of Munster has been robbed by the Empire of countless young children. All were sent to dark shrines in Miletos... I... I couldn't save even a single child. Me, brave? Hah! I hardly deserve such a lofty label. I'm just another coward..." — Ced,Fire Emblem: Genealogy of the Holy War
- ↑"It pains me to see the defenseless in anguish, but the truth is I am as helpless as anyone." — Ced toAlfonse,Fire Emblem Heroes
- ↑"Alfonse: The tale of your valor is well-known here in Askr, Ced. Unable to turn from those in need, you stood against a powerful foe. They call you the Hero on the Wind.
Ced: A lofty moniker like that does not suit me. I am no hero.
Alfonse: From what I've heard of your deeds, you more than earned it.
Ced: I have earned no more than any of those who suffered in that tragedy. And if I had, I would discard it. A title like that is too heavy a burden." — Ced and Alfonse,Fire Emblem Heroes - ↑"Ced: It is true that I once fought for the people of Munster. But that was more a matter of circumstance than anything else. Their plight was not what brought me there. I had only been searching for my missing father.
Alfonse: Are you suggesting that your heroic story was merely the result of a coincidence?
Ced: A true hero would have set out to end the Empire's oppression from the very beginning. If I had done that, then many children would have been saved from anguish and imprisonment. I failed them." — Ced and Alfonse,Fire Emblem Heroes - ↑"Heroes like Lord Seliph possess an unshakeable resolve to defend those who cannot defend themselves. Someone like that would have done right by those people from the start. Someone like you, Prince Alfonse. You have a far greater right to the title of hero than I ever will." — Ced to Alfonse,Fire Emblem Heroes
- ↑"Alfonse: You could have fled, couldn't you? Taken the easy way out?
Ced: That is a fair point. Yes, I could have." — Ced and Alfonse,Fire Emblem Heroes - ↑"I hope to make my presence in this world meaningful. We are not helpless to work together, and together I believe we will see a future that is free of war." — Ced,Fire Emblem Heroes
