Cath (Japanese:キャスCath) is a character inFire Emblem: The Binding Blade. She first appears inChapter 6; she can be recruited fromChapter 12 toChapter 22 if talked to byRoy three times, once per chapter.
Fire Emblem: The Binding Blade
Role
Cath is a crafty and cheery young girl who took up thievery after a group of soldiers and nobles, presumably from Bern, had her village burnt down to the ground. As a result of nobility being behind this felony, Cath began to steal gold and other valuables from the greedy rich and give all of it to the poor and unfortunate. She also possesses a deep-seated hatred towards her own father, who she regards to as a coward, as he was the one who particularly burned down the village under the order of the nobles. At first, she is reluctant to join Roy, merely because he is himself a noble from Pherae. However, if the player gets him to talk to her three times, each time in different levels, she will join Roy's army, and help him in his good cause to stop Bern's tyranny and help in the reconstruction of her village.
After the war ended and Bern was defeated, Cath continued to travel around the world, continuing to steal from the rich and give to the poor. Her name was imprinted in history as a master thief and a legend.

Analysis
| This character analysis section may not be accurate to every player's experience. |
Even if you recruit her onthe earliest possible chapter, she will still join with incredibly low base stats. Her hard mode bonuses will become stronger the later she joins, but this comes at the cost of her availability, and she will always have poor base stats. One might see her fairly high growth rates, especially speed, and decide to train her, but in reality that is an awful idea, asThieves inThe Binding Blade cannotpromote. In fact, her viability has absolutely nothing to do with her combat in the slightest.
It may appear to some thatstealing Cath's items and killing her inher first chapter may be more beneficial than recruiting her. You can acquire aVulnerary andLockpick by stealing from Cath. True, killing her stops her from showing up in later chapters to steal your loot, but if you play at a decent pace, it is trivial to talk to her or steal her stuff before she gets anywhere near the chests. If recruited, she has several instances of utility that vastly overshadow some minor loot. For one, if recruited inChapter 12, she can help open chests, meaning you do not need a deployment slot for another thief. In addition to this, with her hard mode bonuses, she can open chests effectively on maps with siege tomes, such as 16, as with a pure water she can take a hit, which Chad cannot do untrained, and as previously stated, training thieves is pointless. If Astolfo is dead or grabbing the chests on the other side of the map, Cath can be very useful for this purpose. If you really don't want to recruit Cath, you can steal her stuff multiple times if you don't recruit her and keep letting her come in as a reinforcement.

Personality
Cath is a very cunning thief, and she takes great pride in her skill. She regards to herself as a master thief, as she steals from the rich and gives to the poor, and has her ways around thievery, whether it be switching bags of money with duplicates, or by simply using deception, as seen in her support conversation with the pirate Geese, where she pretends to be drunk and vulnerable (This fails, however).[2] She claims that she gives all of the money she steals to the peasantry, and that she does not keep any of the pilfered treasures for herself, which reveals her selfless motives for thievery.[3] She is also cheery and optimistic, as seen in her support conversations with Chad, whom she humorously regards to as "Servant #1."[4] Before she eventually joins up with Roy and his army, she can be seen appearing on random maps as a red unit, going around and picklocking treasure chests. This continues until the player has Roy talk to her three times, causing her to eventually be convinced to join Roy's army.
There are three particular types of people whom Cath holds a grudge against: Nobility, bandits, and most importantly, her father. During the war, a large group of soldiers and nobles, possibly from Bern, came to her village, and orders all of its civilians to burn it down. They, of course, refused to do so. In response, the nobles prepared to raid the village, until Cath's father, seeing the incident, took the torch and burned the entire village, crops and all, to the ground.[5] Ever since then, she has retained a hatred towards both nobility and her own father. As a result, she left what used to be her village in order to steal from the rich and give to the poor, promising herself that she will never be cowardly like her father. However, Bartre, a veteran warrior, explains to Cath how maybe her father should not deserve her hate, because he burned down the village in order to protect her daughter from the soldiers. Afterwards, Cath still ends up keeping her regards to her father as cowardly, but she does say she would take Bartre's thoughts into account.[6] As well as her hatred towards the rich and her father, she also holds great hostility towards bandits, as shown in her support with Garret, who is, himself, a bandit.[7]
