Camus the Sable (Japanese:ブラックナイツ・カミュBlack Knight Camus) is the twentieth chapter inFire Emblem: Shadow Dragon & the Blade of Light andFire Emblem: Shadow Dragon and the sixteenth chapter in Book I ofFire Emblem: Mystery of the Emblem.

Plot

Main article:Camus the Sable/Script

Before the siege ofGrust,Nyna explains thatCamus intervened on her behalf to prevent her from being executed byDolhr and that she has fallen in love with him, then asksMarth to find a way to convince him to stand down. Despite Marth's best efforts, Camus refuses to yield, and is defeated and presumed dead. Marth does succeed in recruiting the Grustian generalLorenz, an old friend ofCaeda's father. After the battle, Marth leaves Nyna to her grief.

Strategy

This section details unofficial strategies that may help with completion of the chapter. This may not work for everybody.

Preparation and Unit Promotion:

  • Promote any unpromoted units.
  • If you have plenty of money, invest in Silver or Killer weapons. Save some funds for future chapters though; you'll need at least 30,000 Gold if you have theSilver Card for half-price discounts.
  • Healing staffs are not for sale in this chapter; bring plenty of them if you plan on using the Arena. If you're short, there's always thepreparations shop.
  • Bring defensive units likeGenerals to block reinforcements.
  • BringRidersbanes to defeat the Paladins. 38 Strength (impossible) is necessary to OHKO the bulkiest ones on Hard-5 with an unforged Ridersbane, but forging extra might onto Ridersbanes has a 1:3 payoff rate; with a good forge, the strength requirement drops drastically.

During Battle:

  • UseTiki with theFirestone; save theDivinestone for stronger enemies.
  • Use theStarsphere when using valuable weapons, such as thelegendary weapons, expensiveforges orExcalibur/Aura, to prevent durability from depleting.
  • Initially, position a defensive unit within the Paladins' range. After defeating them, send your high-mobility units against theBallisticians.
  • IfLena is alive, secure the village withMarth. If Lena is dead, then it's basically worthless unless you want toAum her and repair your equipment in the last 1-2 chapters of the game.
  • TheHammerne (Lena only) fully restores a weapon or staff's durability. It has 12 uses, which is probably more than what you can reasonably use up in the chapters that remain. If Lena is still around, use it to repair legendary weapons or expensive forges so you can use them frequently, provided they do not reach 0 durability. If you find that even then you cannot use the Hammerne up, feel free to use expensive staves likeFortify more frequently and Hammerne them as well.
  • Raise the bridge with aThief orMaster Key, confront the Generals, and place a defensive unit on the bridge to halt reinforcements.
  • Use ranged attackers cautiously; some enemies carry Killer or Silver weapons.
  • Utilize terrain and supports to improve evasion against the Ballistician.
  • UseThunderbolt on your own Ballisticians to counter enemy Ballisticians; +5 MT forge ensures an OHKO even with a Magic stat of 0.
  • RecruitLorenz withCaeda.

Dealing with Camus:

  • Unfortunately,Camus is not recruitable. Draw him into attack range with a sturdy unit. Survive his onslaught and the Ballistician's potential attacks.
  • If you've trained a Ballistician, useThunderbolt. It targets Camus' low resistance from complete safety. Heal the bait unit and clear Camus's range for the next turn.
  • Attack Camus with multiple units usingRidersbane. Beware: distant attackers (mages/archers) risk fatal counterattacks.
  • Alternatively, try to OHKO Camus with a heavily forged Ridersbane. With a +10 forge, a mere 17 Strength is sufficient, although the Strength requirement increases by 3 for every point of MT not forged onto the weapon.
  • Line up theTriangle Attack withPalla,Catria andEst for an easy OHKO. Palla is 3 points of attack off from OHKO-ing with her base stats and aRidersbane; a simple promotion toDracoknight or a 1-MT forge will ensure an OHKO without fail, even on Hard-5 — on Hard-2 and below, Palla can OHKO with her base stats alone. The other two sisters can also attack nearby enemies if possible from tiles adjacent to Camus, provided they are able to survive to set up the Triangle Attack.

Note: You'll head toChapter 20x if you finish this chapter with 15 or fewer units alive.
