Calf, with his wifeAlfiona, had a son:Quan; Quan himself marriedEthlyn ofChalphy, and with her had two children: a daughter,Altena, and a son,Leif. Calf was king of Leonster in 760 whenSigurd of Chalphy marched againstGrannvale, and Quan and theLanceritter marched through theAed Desert with Ethlyn and Altena to aid him. During their march, the Lanceritter were ambushed byTravant and theThracian army in what would be theAed Massacre, and were all killed but Altena, who was taken and adopted by Travant along with theGáe Bolg. Taking advantage of the chaos in Leonster and Grannvale, Travant invadedMunster; Calf responded to Munster's call for aid, and prepared what remained of Leonster's army to aid Munster.[1] Prior to leaving Leonster, Calf orderedFinn to stay in Leonster with Leif, but to flee with Leif toUlster if they hear word that Leonster failed to defeat Thracia, and asked PrincessLachesis ofNordion to accompany them.[2]
On the march to Munster, Calf met with KingCarl ofConnacht and his advisorRaydrik, and received the support of the Connacht army.[2] After three days of marching, Calf, leading the joint armies of Leonster and Connacht, crossed the River Thracia into Munster's territory; however, they were ambushed by the Thracian army from the mountains in Munster, and were forced to retreat to the river, suffering heavy losses.[3] At the river, Calf was met by an army led by Raydrik; when Thracia attacked again, Raydrik turned on Leonster and killed King Calf.[3]
