Byron (Japanese:バイロンVylon) was the Duke ofGrannvale's HouseChalphy until Grann 760, and the father ofSigurd andEthlyn.
Biography
Highly renowned as both a politician and a warrior, Byron served withLing ofYngvi as a direct advisor and confidante to PrinceKurth. At some point during his life, he somehow drew the ire of DukeLombard ofDozel, whose utter hatred for Byron and the Chalphy family as a whole would drive him in later years.[1]
At the onset of the war withIsaach in Grann 757, Byron accompanied Kurth on the war's front lines as his right-hand man. Under their leadership, Grannvale won the war, but on the return trip the two were assaulted by Lombard, who assassinated Kurth; Byron survived but was severely injured andTyrfing was broken, and he fled the scene and disappeared for a time afterward.[2] Lombard andReptor, withArvis's assistance, successfully framed Byron and Sigurd for the conspiracy to kill Kurth, prompting Sigurd to seek refuge inSilesse.
Byron reappeared near the Silesse border in Grann 760, seeking to deliver Tyrfing's remains to Sigurd. He was sighted by Lombard's subordinateSlayder at Lubeck Castle, their base in preparation to assault Silesse to apprehend Sigurd, who in response ordered an all-out assault to kill him before he could reach Sigurd. Upon reaching Sigurd, he handed over Tyrfing and told him of Lombard and Reptor's role in Kurth's death, then died from his wounds.

Personality
Byron was an honorable and wise man, highly respected by his peers (aside from Reptor and Lombard); Kurth valued his advice immensely, seeking it above all else on many matters.[3] For his part, Byron was always highly concerned about Kurth's welfare and that of theBelhalla royal family as a whole, particularly in light of the potential risk of the lineage dying if anything happened to Kurth.[4]
