| “ | When Lord Quan fought in Lord Sigurd's army—gods rest their souls—there was a woman, a soldier, who served alongside us. She was an unmistakable sight on the battlefield... With her long, blonde hair waving in the wind, you could mistake her for a goddess. She was the eldest lady of House Yngvi, and inheritor of the holy bow Yewfelle... Her name was Brigid. | ” | — Finn |

Brigid (Japanese:ブリギッドBriggid) is a noblewoman ofGrannvale's HouseYngvi, afull-blooded descendant of the CrusaderUllr, the daughter of LordLing, the sister ofEdain andAndrey, and the inheritor of the holy bowYewfelle. She was separated from her family and adopted by the pirates ofOrgahil as a young child, eventually rising to become their leader. During theAgustrian civil war she was reunited with Edain and joined her inSigurd's army.
Years after theBattle of Belhalla, having lost her memories of her former life, Brigid re-emerged inThracia asEyvel (pronounced /ˈeɪvəl/[key][2] Japanese:エーヴェルEyvel), a travelling mercenary. She became the leader of the small village ofFiana and founded theFiana Freeblades to defend the region from bandits. While in Fiana, Eyvel adoptedMareeta as her surrogate daughter, and helped protect the fugitive PrinceLeif. In the year 776, whenNanna and Mareeta were abducted byRaydrik, she set out with Leif to rescue them and liberate the Thracian Peninsula, but was captured and turned tostone byVeld, motivating Leif to raise a revolution army to oppose Raydrik and Grannvale.
Biography
As Brigid
In her early childhood, Brigid accompanied Ling and her siblings on a religious pilgrimage to theTower of Bragi, but during the journey their ship was caught in a storm. Brigid was separated from her family as they evacuated the ship.[3] She was found by the pirates ofOrgahil, a renowned "honorable pirate" gang, whose captain took her in as his adopted daughter.[4]
When her foster father died, Brigid succeeded him as the leader of the Orgahil pirates. Her leadership of the group continued her father's honorable tradition, believing herself to have a duty to aid the poor of Orgahil and Agustria, to the dismay of some of the band's members. In Grann 759, during the climax of the Agustrian civil war, her former subordinateDuvall led the pirates in a mutiny against Brigid in response to her criticism of their attacks on Agustrian villages, and during her escape she was reunited withEdain, now part ofSigurd's army fighting to defend the people of Agustria from the pirates. Edain convinced Brigid to attempt to drawYewfelle, restoring her lost memories of her childhood in Yngvi, and she joined Sigurd's army in fighting the pirates, in exile inSilesse and in Sigurd's ill-fated march on Grannvale to confront the lies perpetrated against him. At some point during this time, she had two children:Febail andPatty, who ended up in an orphanage inConnacht.
As Eyvel
Brigid was present at theBattle of Belhalla and survived it, but was wounded and stripped of her memories. Six years after the battle, she was found washed up on the eastern coastline ofThracia by residents of the village of Iz, and was rescued and taken in by them.[5] Adopting the identity of Eyvel, she took to travelling as a mercenary and came to the villageFiana, successfully freeing it from a long-standing bandit infestation. She became the leader of the village and established theFiana Freeblades to defend it and the surrounding area. At some point during this time, she ventured to Connacht and found a slave market attempting to sellMareeta, for which she killed the slave traders and rescued Mareeta. Eyvel was unable to findMareeta's father, and so took her in as her own adopted daughter.[6]
The year Grann 773 saw the arrival of three fugitives in Fiana:Leif,Nanna, andFinn. Eyvel allowed all three to settle in hiding in Fiana and sought to protect them from possible pursuits by the Grannvale Empire, although as time wore on Leif and Finn started assisting the Freeblades in combat missions. In Grann 776, while returning from a pirate-fighting mission with Leif and the Fiana Freeblades, Eyvel found that Fiana had been assaulted byRaydrik and his army in their absence, and was now under their control. Though initially hesitant to let Leif get caught in the fight, or to rush into an uncertain situation, she nonetheless decided to storm the village to retake it. Once the army was driven out, she found thatNanna and Mareeta had been taken as hostages by Raydrik. At Leif's insistence, she decided to depart forMunster with the militia the next day, intending to rescue the two.
Afterthe fight at Fort Kelbeth, when Raydrik arrived to capture Leif, Eyvel voluntarily also surrendered herself to captivity in order to look after Leif. The two andLifis were taken to a prison inMunster, and Eyvel was taken by Raydrik to an arena in the upper castle in order to see Nanna and Mareeta. In the arena, she and Nanna were pitted against several warriors, with Raydrik promising that she could see Mareeta if the warriors were defeated; when she did so, Mareeta was let into the arena, brainwashed by theShadow Sword and seeking to kill Eyvel;Veld then turned Eyvel tostone.
Sometime later, after the defeat of Raydrik, obtaining theKia staff and learning thatSara was capable of using it, Leif travelled to theLoptrian temple to which Veld had retreated, and there found the still-petrified Eyvel and had Sara cure her. There, she reunited with the Fiana Freeblades, was thanked byGalzus for raising Mareeta where he could not, and was approached byFinn about her true identity. Despite Finn's certainty that he had previously known Eyvel as Brigid, Eyvel denied the possibility of being a Crusader's heir as outlandish. Nonetheless, years after the conflict ended, her memory of her true identity as Brigid eventually returned and she was reunited with Febail and Patty, now adults and the rulers of House Yngvi.

Analysis
| This character analysis section may not be accurate to every player's experience. |
As a unit
Brigid is a level 12Sniper with very good base stats and major Ullr Holy Blood. Aside from improving Brigid's HP and luck growth rates, her Holy Blood lets her useYewfelle; Yewfelle is the most powerful bow in the game, and Brigid can get it through a conversation withEdain that is only available in Chapter 3.
Brigid is one of only two units inGenealogy of the Holy War who can use Yewfelle—the other being her son,Febail—and the only unit who can in the first generation. Yewfelle has 30 might, grants +10 strength and speed, and givesRenewal. With Yewfelle, her base stats, and innateFollow-Up, Brigid can one-round most enemies, and is often capable one-shotting them; Brigid is particularly strong against the high number ofPegasus andFalcon Knights inChapter 4. However, Yewfelle has 70 hit, and may struggle to reliably hit enemies, particularly those with highavoid or in avoid-boostingterrain. Additionally, Brigid has fairly high durability and avoid and can usually survive enemy attacks, but she is able to avoid most counterattacks as bows attack at 2-range.
Brigid's high combat prowess and strong Holy Weapon allow her to clear thearena with relative ease. She is also a good counter to flying bosses, like the Falcon Knights in Chapter 4—she can be particularly effective againstPamela, who will fly north to Tófa Castle, where Brigid can wait for her to arrive.
Brigid has two significant flaws: her lack of access to 1-range, and her lack of access to a mount. Because Brigid lacks a 1-range option, she cannot counter 1-range enemies on enemy phase, making her a liability in it more often than not. It is possible to manipulate the enemy AI of some enemies to attack Brigid from 2-range and get her kills, and the notoriously random AI will sometimes suicide a unit against her even when it has a better target, but it demands effort and cannot be done for every enemy in every situation. Brigid's lack of access to a mount is arguably more significant; unmounted units fall behind the front lines, and Brigid will struggle to contribute to combat without the player slowing themselves down. As Brigid offers no utility, she is useless outside of combat.
As a mother
Brigid has two children: her son Febail, aBow Fighter; and her daughterPatty, aThief. Brigid's children inherit items and Holy Blood from their opposite-sex parent—the opposite of most other children—so Febail will inherit Brigid's major Ullr blood and her bows, including Yewfell; Febail will always have Follow-Up from Bow Fighter and Sniper, so Febail is not strongly impacted by his father.Patty is the unit that is more dependent on pairing, so Brigid's pairings tend to focus on her.
The most popular husband for Brigid isDew. Dew gives Febail and PattyBargain, letting them repair weapons at reduced cost and sell items such as the Paragon Ring for as muchgold as they were purchased. It also gives PattySol, increasing her survivability a little. It is fairly easy to pair Dew and Brigid, as both are unmounted units; additionally, in Chapter 3, Dew has a special event in the Tower of Bragi, close to where Brigid appears.
Another option isLex. Lex passes down minor Nál Holy Blood, improving Febail and Patty's defense and HP growths. Lex also passed downVantage andParagon, letting both children gain experience at a faster rate; this is especially useful for Patty, who struggles to gain experience and promote in average playthroughs without significant dedication. Patty makes great use of Vantage when combined with the Sleep Sword she joins with, as it allows her to repeatedly attempt to activate sleep on Arena enemies until they are put to sleep, which grants her a guaranteed victory. Febail can make situational use of Vantage if the player is willing to prepare a Vantage setup for enemy phase; however, Febail—like Brigid—lacks a 1-range option and will only be able to use Vantage against a select few enemies. A similar pairing option isArden; Arden offers Vantage and relatively high HP and defense growths, but does not pass down Holy Blood or Paragon. However, pairing Brigid with Arden is easier as their movement disparity is smaller, and keeping Lex with Brigid limits his potential.
Another option isChulainn. Chulainn passes down minor Od Holy Blood, increasing Febail's and Patty's skill and HP growths. Febail particularly appreciates the growth boost, since it makes him more durable and reliable. Additionally, Patty will inheritLuna from Chulainn, giving her a combat tool to deal with enemies. Od Holy Blood also increases her sword rank to B, letting her use stronger weapons; with Chulainn as a father, Patty can use theBrave Sword at base, which vastly improves her combat, helping her clear the arena and contribute in general—especially if the Brave Sword has akill bonus.
Jamke passes downAdept andAccost to both children, significantly boosting Febail's combat and improving his reliability. Adept and Accost allow Febail to attack more than twice in a round of combat; Yewfelle is not very accurate, but more potential shots increases the chance that he hits at least one, especially relevant when fighting difficult bosses likeArion. Additional attacks will not significantly improve Patty's combat, as she will deal very little damage with each attack.
Fire Emblem: Thracia 776

Analysis
| This character analysis section may not be accurate to every player's experience. |
Eyvel joins in the first chapter as aSwordmaster. Despite being an infantry unit, her basemovement is very high at 8; she has the movement of an unpromoted mounted unit, allowing her to be on the front lines at all times. She is also secretly invincible untilchapter 24x around – any attack that would kill her will be a miss instead (though she can still be captured). Enemies will often miss regardless, as she comes with cappedspeed, and as such, heravoid is very high. Her high speed also allows Eyvel todouble every single enemy from the very start, making her instantly useful and reliable.
Eyvel has twoaction stars and oneauthority star. Two action stars give Eyvel a 10% chance to move again whenever she ends her turn, which is a useful but unreliable effect. It can sometimes increase her player phase offensive potential, or allow her to move further toward an objective. Eyvel's authority star provides +3% accuracy and avoid bonuses to the entire army as long as Eyvel is deployed and alive. As such, Eyvel benefits the entire army no matter how much combat she is involved in.
Eyvel has theFlame Sword in her starting inventory and is the only unit who can use it in the early game. The Flame Sword is a 1–2range sword that deals magic damage at 2-range and physical at 1-range, and boosts the wielder's magic by 5. This weapon, combined with Eyvel's other strengths, makes Eyvel excel at killing bosses, since the bosses inThracia 776 are frequently located on thrones giving them avoid bonuses and +10 defense, but not magic, which functions as resistance inThracia 776. The Flame Sword's hit isn't great on its own, but Eyvel's 18 base skill means that she will be able to hit reliably with it, and Adept helps compensate for unlucky misses with a ~35% chance of activating once. Other units will struggle even to damage some bosses that Eyvel can easily defeat, especially since the player does not have a spellcaster throughout the entire early game until they recruitAsbel inChapter 4x.
Eyvel is still viable endgame, although she does not stand out nearly as much. Her high swordrank allows her to use every sword not locked to a character or class, and she still has capped Speed, so she will continue to double enemies. Even if she never enters combat, she still benefits the entire army by merit of having an authority star. Her actual combat is no longer as impressive as several chapters ago, however; while she still has no trouble one-rounding most enemies, she does face worryingly reasonablehit rates from some enemies and her durability is mediocre at best. Eyvel is unlikely to gain more stats either, due to her slow exp gain, low growths, and there only beingone more chapter left until the end of the game. If she is deployed there, she is effectively locked to the last deployment slot, which allows her to be at any room in theory though this requires undeploying other characters for any slot aside from one outside ofDraco's room.
Eyvel's main flaw is her poor availability – she leaves the army for good in Chapter 5 and can only return in Chapter 24x – if visited – when she compares much less favorably to other units that have been available longer. She is not the only strong unit who joins early inThracia 776 either, withFinn,Dagdar, andOsian all also being great and joining in the same chapter as Eyvel. There is, however, nothing preventing the use of Eyvel in conjunction with these other strong units, especially as she strengthens them with her authority star.

In contrast to her calm and reserved sister, Brigid was energetic, headstrong and fierce. She never wasted words, preferring to cut straight to the point in no uncertain terms, and did not take kindly to attempts by her pirate subordinates to contravene her mission of honesty and charity. In her Eyvel persona, while still as determined to defend the weak as ever, she mellowed slightly and adopted a more maternal persona. Leif, Nanna and many of the youths of Fiana all came to view Eyvel as a mother figure in their lives, playing a strong role in their upbringing and development in the absence of their lost mothers.[7]

Eyvel - Mistress of Fiana
Returning to Fiana for a time, Eyvel temporarily led a quiet, peaceful life. Eventually, her "geas," the compact she had made with the dragons, expired. And with its end, her memory returned, seven years after the end of the Holy War. Her belated reunion with her children became the subject of a timeless song, known to any bard who can play a lute...

The faithful and wealthy Lord Ling of Yngvi was also heading towards the Tower along with his children once again. However, the ship got caught in a storm and was in danger of sinking. The calm second daughter Edain and the scared first son Andrey stayed next to Lord Ling, but the energetic first daughter Brigid was playing inside the ship and her whereabouts were unknown. Having no choice, Lord Ling takes the two children and evacuate the ship.
