This article is about the weapon type. For the strike weapon from the Tellius games, seeBreath (laguz).

Breath (Japanese:ブレスbreath) is a weapon classification encompassing various breath-related attacks used bydragons. In most games, breath does not appear as a distinct weapon type; however, it does appear as such inMystery of the Emblem,Awakening,Fates, andHeroes. While every breath weapon has aweapon level of 1 inMystery of the Emblem, it had no weapon level in games using the lettered weapon level system untilFates.

Breaths as distinct weapons first appeared inMystery of the Emblem when dragons not linked toManakete stones first appeared in the series;Mystery of the Emblem is the only one in the mainFire Emblem series where breath weapons are directly and regularly usable by the player by legitimate means due to the effects of Manakete stones in that game, though breaths are usable in two chapters inFates. Breath weapons have appeared off and on in the series since, usually by powerful dragon-type enemy units. InHeroes, however, they appear as the attack skills wielded by all dragon units, and, owing to the nature of the game, all dragon units can appear as both player and enemy units.

Despite its name, the dragonlaguz'sbreaths inPath of Radiance andRadiant Dawn do not fall into this classification, and are insteadstrikes. Similarly, theFire Breath andWater Breath inFire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia aremonster weapons.

Breath weapons appear inFire Emblem Heroes as the attack skills used by dragon units appearing in the game. Breaths are not associated with any single color in the game'sweapon triangle, and units of each color breath are present. This would later be made true ofbows anddaggers as well, which at launch were only colorless.

Red, blue, and green breaths have been part of the game since its initial launch; colorless breath was the first weapon type added to the game after its initial launch, being introduced to the game in theThe True Quarry update on March 29, 2018.
