Saint Bragi (Japanese:聖者ブラギSaint Blagi), also referred to asArchbishop Bragi (Japanese:大司祭ブラギArchbishop Blagi), was a member of theTwelve Crusaders ofJugdral, the original wielder of theValkyrie Staff, and the founder of bothGrannvale's HouseEdda and the Church of Edda.
Biography
In his youth, Bragi was captured in thechild hunts and was to be sacrificed, but was rescued from captivity by aMaeristLoptrian and adopted him. He was raised as a Maerist Loptrian inOrgahil, becoming a bishop of the faith. Like the other Maerist Loptrians, he sought to help the people of Jugdral, which led him to join the revolutions against theLoptrian Empire at a young age.[1] Eventually, by the year Grann 642, Bragi was among the survivors barricaded inDahna Fortress, after the tide turned against their movement and the Loptrian Empire's forces overwhelmed the revolution. It was at this fortress that theMiracle of Dahna occurred, changing the fate of the world: Bragi was chosen by an unidentified member of the twelvedragon "gods" who descended upon the fortress, to undergo ablood-bond with said dragon, transforming him into one of the Crusaders. He was granted theValkyrie Staff by this dragon. Afterward, he emerged from Dahna with the other Crusaders and fought in the remainder of theHoly War.
At the war's conclusion, he joined withHeim and five other Crusaders to set up the Kingdom ofGrannvale, establishing HouseEdda with himself as its first duke; some time afterward, Bragi returned to Orgahil and found his Maerist conclave had been wiped out in his absence. This motivated him to start the Church of Edda, a structured faith which returned to the pre-Loptrian religious concepts of Jugdral, in order to help the people of Jugdral recover from the centuries of Loptrian domination. He also constructed theTower of Bragi as a memorial to the lost Maerists who raised him and as a reminder to the world that not all Loptrians were evil.[2] Bragi wished to ensure that Loptrians were not persecuted in the post-Loptrian Empire world, inscribing this message on a plaque in Tower of Bragi, but his message was ignored and forgotten and the Tower of Bragi message was later erased.[3]

- ↑"Bragi, one of the Twelve Crusaders, was a holy worker who received the teachings of that Maerist Loptrian church. As he was about to become a sacrifice at a young age, he was saved by a Maerist bishop, and grew up in a hidden small island located in Agustria's northern area which was one of their central locations. Then, in that land Bragi took in knowledge of a bishop, and joined the liberation army at a young age. He continued to fight against the oppression of the Loptrian Empire, and as one of the last twelve fighters, met the miracle at Dahna fortress. Bragi, who acquired the powers of the dragon race, was idolized as the one who controls fate and life, and did myriad amounts of services during the Holy War." —Designers' notes fromFire Emblem: Treasure, translated by Serenes Forest,Retrieved: June 17, 2013
- ↑"After the Empire was destroyed, Bragi went back to his Maerist home town that saved and nurtured him. However, that land was already destroyed by the Imperial army, and what struck his eyes was the dispersed corpses of priests. Suprised and terrified, he went on to save the ruined world, and in order to release the people from the aftereffects of the Loptrian Church, strived to revive the old Earthen religion. This was because it was the one and only religion for the people who are put in a place against Loptous, and the Maerist bishops were also wishing for it. At that point, Bragi constructed a new church with his homeland of Edda as the base location, and at the same time constructed a gigantic tower at the island that protected and nurtured him. In one theory, it was said to seal his own powers, but the tower's goal was to mourn for the Maerist priests who saved the world from destruction, and to serve as an omen for the next generation. The omen was that the reason to build the tower was to tell them there were people in the Imperial inner circle and the Loptrian church that saved the people by sacrificing their own lives, and to pay the debts owed to their heavenly souls." —Designers' notes fromFire Emblem: Treasure, translated by Serenes Forest,Retrieved: June 17, 2013
- ↑"So, Bragi wanted to leave a warning to the future generations that the descendants of the Empire's upper class citizens shouldn't be persecuted or discriminated. Actually, Bragi wrote that himself in the altar's stone monument, inside the tower, but somebody destroyed it later. Then, the warning was once again forgotten, and the results of such are well-known by everyone." —Designers' notes from Fire Emblem: Treasure, translated by Serenes Forest,Retrieved: June 17, 2013
