Analysis

This character analysis section may not be accurate to every player's experience.

Bord joins inChapter 2 alongside the only other 3 axe users—Barst,Cord, andDarros—and Bord is outclassed in almost every way by Barst. Barst has higher base stats in every stat except forresistance; higher growths inweapon level, speed, and luck; equal growths instrength, skill, defense, and resistance; and only has a disadvantage inHP. Bord's viability compared to the other axe users is more debatable; Bord has a higher base weapon level than Cord, allowing him to use theHammer andDevil Axe—which Cord cannot—as well as a higher base strength and growth rate, and higher skill and defense stats. However Cord has 2 more base speed and a 30% higher speed growth, as well as better base skill and luck, and higher growths in HP, luck, and weapon level—notably, his weapon level growth means he can eventually use the Hammer and Devil Axe. Compared with Darros, Bord has better base strength and skill and better growths in skill, luck, and defense; while Darros has slightly better base HP and weapon level and the unique ability to walk on water. Unfortunately, Bord falls victim to the same detriments all the axe users have, namely mediocre movement and the inability to promote. These flaws mean that Bord can't really hold his own compared with the best units in this game, and it is hard to recommend deploying him over Barst, or even alongside Barst. However, if Barst dies, or you lose many of your good units, Bord can be a decent replacement, and he offers decent utility in the early-game.

Analysis

This character analysis section may not be accurate to every player's experience.

Bord is a very weak unit in Book 1 with very little potential to grow. Bord's base stats are fairly average for the early game, with decent defenses, strength, and a high enough weapon level to use all of the axes besides the silver axe obtained in chapter 7, but he is mostly held back by his class. Only having axes pairs very poorly with Bord's critical weakness: his low speed. TheIron Axe has 7weight, so with 7 base speed Bord will have 0 speed with even the lightest axe, and the strongerSteel Axe and 1-2 rangeHand Axe both weigh an even heftier 9. Bord has a measly 10% growth in speed, so even if leveled to 20, Bord is statistically unlikely to reach the 10 speed needed to double 0AS enemies without using a coveted speed ring. Bord will struggle to one-round any enemy in the game, and will often be at risk of being doubled, making him more frail than his defense and HP would suggest. He cannot compensate for this by using the high-mightSilver Axe either, as his weapon level of 5 with a 20% growth makes reaching the necessary 10 weapon level to wield it unreliable. His only realistic chance of dealing significant damage is with theDevil Axe, which has only 9 uses and can randomly backfire and deal damage to Bord. He cannot mitigate these statistical weaknesses by promoting either, as the Fighter class has no promotion in Mystery of the Emblem. The one positive Bord has is joining in Chapter 2, early enough in the game that Bord can be used as a filler unit before stronger units join the army, but as a long-term unit there is no strong incentive to invest resources in Bord or deploy him past the first few chapters.

Analysis

This character analysis section may not be accurate to every player's experience.

Bord's base stats are generally unimpressive. While his strength and HP growths are good, his speed growth is 10%, which means that he is unlikely to grow significantly beyond his base speed; his base speed is high enough to avoid getting doubled by some enemies, but he will quickly start getting doubled and one-rounded, especially on higher difficulties.

Bord's only saving grace is his base C rank in axes. It allows him to use theHammer at base, with which he can deal high effective damage and killKnights. Axes are a good weapon type to be locked into because they haveweapon triangle advantage over the abundance of enemy lance units past the early-game; they are also alright in the early-game because most enemy units use axes, so there is no weapon triangle disadvantage.

However, overall, Bord is a very unimpressive unit. His only utility is his base C rank in axes, which allows him to use the Hammer, but Barst will have much better stats and he can reach C rank axes relatively quickly. Bord's speed will never grow much, and he will start getting doubled and one-rounded quickly, at which point he is a liability and should be benched. There is some usefulness he can have for a short time after he joins, but after a few chapters, using him will become more trouble than it is worth.

Fire Emblem: New Mystery of the Emblem

Role

As one of the characters appearing in Book 1 but not Book 2 ofMystery of the Emblem, Bord was re-added toNew Mystery of the Emblem. He appears whenMarth visits a village during the freeing of Macedon, at which point he joins his forces for the rest of the game.

As with a number of other characters inNew Mystery of the Emblem, there is a unique shared weapon named for Bord andCord available throughEveryone's Conditions:Bordcord Axe.

Analysis

This character analysis section may not be accurate to every player's experience.

Bord is one of three early game Fighters (four if the player madeKris into a fighter), joining a chapter after his counterpart, Cord and a few chapters before Barst. Compared to Cord, Bord trades a couple points of Speed and nearly all of his Luck for a C rank in axes. He starts with a Hammer in his inventory and may be the only unit in the player's army who can use it for a few chapters. Still, while a Hammer-wielding unit might be nice to have against early game armor knights, this is (at best) a short term niche and not too valuable overall. Bord's long term prospects are quite miserable, given his poor bases and lackluster growths. If the player really wants an axe-wielding unit in the early game, Barst joins just a few chapters later with better bases across the board (most notably +5 base speed over Bord) and comparable growths. While Cord began with a miserable E rank in axes, Barst starts at D, meaning it won't take him long to gain access to the Hammer. Even if the player isn't using Barst (orDice, a fighter who joins in chapter 10 with C rank in axes), the existence of reclassing means it likely won't take long until a better user of the Hammer presents itself. Bord can perform atriangle attack with Cord and Barst, but the opportunity cost that comes with deploying all three of them in the same map significantly outweighs any niche utility this maneuver might have. Overall, Bord is unremarkable. His niche of early game Hammer usage is questionably helpful but he otherwise has little going for him. If the player is intent on using him, they might look into reclassing Bord into either a Dracoknight or a Pirate/Berserker, where he can put his above-average axe rank to use.
