Beran (Japanese:ベルナBerna) is aboss appearing inEphraim's route ofFire Emblem: The Sacred Stones. He is aGrado squad commander ordered to relieveSelena of her duties.

Fire Emblem: The Sacred Stones

Role

Beran is the boss ofChapter 10 of Ephraim's route from the start of turn 2 player phase onward. He arrives in Bethroen withValter, to relieve Selena of her duty on the emperor's belief that she was untrustworthy in the task of dealing with the traitorousDuessel. Considering Valter's comments after Selena departs it is somewhat questionable if the Emperor ever ordered her return.[1]

Beran is unable to complete Duessel's execution or preventEphraim's andFrelia's incursion into the area. He is either killed by Ephraim's forces or flees the battle after the tenth turn. If he flees, it is in fear ofValter returning and exacting punishment for his slowness of completing the task. His fate is unknown after his desertion; he is never seen again.

Personality

Beran is initially confident in his ability to executeDuessel and repelEphraim's forces, though this does not last long. After Ephraim's forces rescue Duessel and continue to hold out, Beran becomes terrified thatValter will return and reprimand them extremely harshly and flees. He is absolutely sure that Valter's punishment will be horrible.

Retreat quote

Beran: Grrr... They're held on for too long. If this continues, General Valter will have me–– ...Prepare a ship. We must flee. Quickly!
Soldier: B-but General Valter... He'll be so angry...
Beran: We're doomed either way. General Valter will never forgive our failure here... And if we stay, we'll be devoured like those other fools... Our best bet is to give up and escape with our lives.
Soldier: Commander Beran! Wait!
