Barbarian
| ||||||
|
TheBarbarian (Japanese:蛮族Barbarian) is abasic infantryclass which was introduced inFire Emblem: Mystery of the Emblem. They are anaxe-wielding classfound only among enemies with the exception ofAwakening; they play a similar role and have similar stats to several other enemy-only axe classes, such as theBrigand,Bandit andPirate. Unlike these classes, Barbarians do not have any unique ability to crossterrain types that are otherwise difficult, if not impossible, to cross.
Barbarians also are treated similar to anadvanced class in the originalFire Emblem: Mystery of the Emblem as they have high base stats and give outExperience equal to promoted classes likeBishop andHorseman, though no class advances to Barbarian. In this game, Barbarians have low speed, but have very high defense in addition to usually wieldingDevil Axes, which never backfire on them.
InFire Emblem: New Mystery of the Emblem, Barbarians are a Basic class, but have high stat caps similar to a promoted class. Through hacking the game files, it can be seen Barbarians promote toBerserker.
Barbarians, like the other similar "criminal axe-fighter" classes, have very highstrength andHP, as well as goodspeed. However, not only do they suffer from the traditional poorskill stat of axe-wielding classes, which along with the lowaccuracy of axes gives them poorhit rates, but they are also affected by terribleresistance, with their high HP failing to do much to mitigate this. Outside of the originalMystery of the Emblem, they also have terrible defense as well. Among enemies, this makes them risky to fight carelessly but relatively easy to quickly damage and defeat.
When the class became playable inAwakening, they also gained the ability topromote to theBerserker andWarrior classes, like the Brigand, Pirate and other similar classes did in earlier games. However, no standard playable character inAwakening joins as a Barbarian, and the player's sole access to the class is throughreclassing compatible units.
