Baldack is aGeneral appearing inChapter 14. He is assistingPaulus in the invasionTarrah, being with the group attacking the city's front gate. Before the battle, Paulus laments that his uncertainty has resulted in the death of his men. Baldack attempts to reassure him thatList's defeat is not on his hands, as List ignored Baldack's orders to wait for reinforcements. Shortly before marching to Tarrah's front gate Paulus tells him to be careful and Baldack reassures him that he will not be defeated.
