Arval (Japanese:ラルヴァLarva) is a character inFire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes. They appear to be similar toSothis, in that they are present within the mind ofShez, the main character ofWarriors: Three Hopes. They rescued Shez from death at the hands ofByleth.
Biography
Arval claims to have no memories from before initially meeting with Shez. Arval appears to have some connection with theAgarthans, stating that seeingKronya elicits a strong, but unclear, emotional response.

Role
Arval is a character appearing inWarriors: Three Hopes. They awaken duringShez's fight againstByleth, giving Shez the power to survive the battle. After the battle, Shez concludes that they need more strength to best Byleth, forcing Arval to save them from dangerous situations multiple times. Arval then tells them that they believe the two of them to be connected, but they cannot recall more about their past.
After Shez helpsEdelgard,Dimitri, andClaude to defend againstKostas's Bandits,Alois asks them to return toGarreg Mach Monastery along with him and the students, making Arval suspicious. Arval then advises Shez not to join theOfficer's Academy, though Shez eventually agrees to join. WhenTomas is revealed to beSolon in disguise, Shez and Arval start to wonder about their true identity. Shez is worried about the powers Arval has granted them, but Arval reassures them that their powers aren't inherently of malicious nature.
Regardless of the player's chosen route, Arval then acts as an advisor for Shez, often giving them battle advice to suggest to their chosen faction's leader. When the chosen army encountersthose who slither in the dark again, both Shez's and Arval's suspicions grow, but neither of them can make sense of the situation.
Should the player not recruit and eventually defeatByleth, Arval expresses their relief about their defeat.
If, on the other hand, the player recruits Byleth, Arval will express a vote of affirmation, but it is possible they are still angry at Shez.
During Chapters 15 and 16, Arval is controlled, possibly possessed byEpimenides to destroySothis, who currently resides within Byleth.
After Chapter 15,The Hour of Vengeance, Arval will disappear for the rest of the story, however in the final battles of each route, Shez will remark on wishing that Arval was there to see them.
If Byleth was recruited on a previous run, Arval can become a unit, purchasable with renown. Their classes (Dark Bishop and Gremory) wil depend on the gender of the Shez that bought the unit. This locks them out of Darting Blow, Sol, Item Expertise, Bowbreaker, Pact, Magic Attack Range +, Dark Spikes T, and Stormblade if Shez is male, and Essence of Darkness, Absorb Magic, Special's Master, and Hades Ωif Shez is female. It is recommended to buy with a Male Shez due to Essence of Darkness and Absorb Magic being invaluable.

In the Japanese version, Arval uses the personal pronoun僕boku. In the English version of the game, and in Heroes, Arval is referred to exclusively with they/them pronouns. Their gender locked classes depend on what gender is the Shez of the file that recruited them.
Arval is quite snarky at times, and unlikeSothis, treatsShez as more of a friend than simply something that drew them together. They are also fairly unimpressed about the world at large, except against theAshen Demon, where they are very hot-headed.
Arval also steps in to protect Shez quite often, having to save them from a multitude of comical incidents before the game starts. It can be said the Arval is Shez's replacement parent, in a way, as they look after the protagonist fondly.
