Arena Assault (Japanese:縛鎖の闘技場Arena of Bonds) is a game mode inFire Emblem Heroes, one of the modes of the game'sColiseum; it was added to the game in theNohrian Summer update and first went live on August 8, 2017. Arena Assault seasons initially were held weekly for the first 232 seasons, but is now currently only held whenever there is noSummoner Duels R or Summoner Duels S event scheduled during the wider Coliseum season.

Arena Assault allows players to challenge extremely difficult teams inarena-style combat, thus making it somewhat of a fusion of the mechanics of theArena andSquad Assault.

Overview

A session of Arena Assault covers up to seven consecutive battles; unlike the Arena, aDueling Sword is not required to play Arena Assault. Like in Squad Assault, players cannot use the same character twice during the same session of Arena Assault; each battle during a session will require a different team.

At the start of the session, the player selects one of their usual teams to fight that battle and up to three different items from the mode's item selection to take into the fray, and then selects the difficulty mode for their first battle; like in the Arena, they can select from Beginner, Intermediate, and Advanced.

Should the player win any of the first six battles, they then begin to prepare for the next battle. For the second through seventh battles, the player first selects the difficulty of their next battle, then their team for that battle; the player can choose to surrender on the difficulty selection screen and end their session right then and there. The player does not need to select the same difficulty for every battle; for example, they can select Beginner for the first battle, Intermediate for the second, and Advanced for the third. Team selection for the subsequent battles works in the same fashion as in the subsequent battles of Squad Assault; they can select another of their usual teams or construct a different team from their full roster.

Starting from version 4.5 in May 2020, players may now suspend in-progress Arena Assault sessions between rounds in order to resume later and play other modes in the meanwhile; suspended in-progress Arena Assault sessions can be resumed and completed at any point until the season ends, and are lost if a session remains suspended at the end of the season.

At the end of a session, should a player earn wins against teams that include characters atlevel 35 or higher, they will win a random item from the mode's item selection for each third, fifth, and seventh qualifying battle won in a session. The mode's item selection is as follows:

Rewards

Like the Arena, Arena Assault ranks players over the span of a week and gives out rewards based on how a player fares over the course of the week. A season of Arena Assault runs over the same length of a season as other season-based modes such as the Arena, with a season typically starting at 7:00 AM UTC on Tuesday through 11:00 PM UTC the following Monday.

Players earnSacred Coins,Refining Stones, andHero Feathers based on their rank at the end of each season, provided they are in the top 300,000 players of a season. The number of Sacred Coins and Refining Stones given is identical at each given level.

Refining Stones were not available prior to the Book II launch update.

Prior to theSummer's Arrival update, Hero Feather rewards were 500 fewer for the top 10,000, 300 fewer for the remainder of the top 30,000, and 100 fewer for the remainder of the top 300,000.

• The introduction of the Arena Assault's slate of items marked the first time an item that had previously appeared in the mainFire Emblem series made an appearance inHeroes, specifically theElixir andNaga's Tear.
