English

Anima

Latin for "animating principle", often interpreted as "spirit" or "soul".[1] Note that affinity names were hidden in the localized versions of the GBA games; in the English version ofThe Blazing Blade, however, the Anima affinity has a string leftover from the Japanese version which labels it as "Nature" (the same name that said game uses for anima magic in item descriptions).

Japanese

Inner Essence. The meaning is difficult to translate into a single concise word and, among other things can be described as, reason, logic, or "the natural order of things".[2] Possibly invoking the Chineseli it is a philosophical concept relating to the "rational principle" of nature. This meaning appears to be reflected in the fact that many characters possessing this affinity trend towards more logical or "rule-following" personalities.
