An Ocean View (Japanese:海の見える場所A Place With an Ocean View) is aparalogue chapter inFire Emblem: Three Houses. It is available fromChapter 9 toChapter 11. In order to attempt this paralogue, the player must have recruitedFlayn, and she must not have fallen in battle previously. In this chapter, Seteth sets out to reclaim sacred land from the Western Church, and is accompanied by Flayn.

Plot

Main article:An Ocean View/Script

Byleth blunders into an argument betweenFlayn andSeteth. Flayn and Seteth explain that the Western Church has seized sacred ground honoring Saint Cichol at Rhodos Coast; if Bylethalready subdued the Western Church's bishop, Seteth elaborates that these are radicals who continue to resist the new order. Flayn desperately wants to accompany Seteth on his mission to subdue them and convinces Byleth and the students to join them as well.

After driving off the heretic apostates, Seteth retrieves theSpear of Assal andCaduceus Staff from the site. He reveals that his wife is buried at the monument. Flayn states that her mother can rest in peace, and Seteth reveals that his claim that the two are siblings is a lie and that she is actually his daughter. He explains that since people are willing to hurt Flayn for her blood, the two have falsified their identities, a deception aided by Seteth's relatively youthful appearance. After recalling the happy times they spent with Seteth's wife, the group heads home.

Beginning log

Western Church extremists have taken over land sacred to Cichol, one of the Four Saints. Seteth heads out to rid the area of them, and Flayn insists on going along.

Strategy

This section details unofficial strategies that may help with completion of the chapter. This may not work for everybody.

Reward Breakdown

Your rewards for doing this paralogue are theSpear of Assal,Caduceus,Cichol Wyvern Co. andCethleann Monks. It should be noted, that if you go onto Crimson Flower, doing this map will take the aforementioned weapons away fromSeteth andFlayn when they inevitably take the field against you. For Seteth, this is equivalent to -1MT, -4AS, -5Hit, -10Crit and the loss of horse-effectiveness and some passive healing. For Flayn, this takes away her 1-3 range and some of her healing, but as she packs aMagic Staff instead, this does make her hit ever so slightly harder.

The Spear of Assal is a massively empoweredHorseslayer for any unit with A-lances and is both powerful and lightweight to boot. Caduceus is a powerful staff that grants +1 magic range; unlikeThyrsus, it doesn't cause recoil damage to crestless units. Both are exceptionally powerful, and are appreciated by any lance or magic user.

Cichol Wyvern Co. is arguably the peak of flying battalions, with excellent boosts in Phys, Hit, Crit, Prt and Cha, a massive 105 endurance, as well as the covetedAssault Troop on a flying battalion. Any prospectiveFalcon Knight/Wyvern Lord will want to be working towards this battalion, with really only the route-lockedImmortal Corps being arguably better. Given the dominance of flying units, this paralogue is worth doing for the battalion alone, even in spite of the already excellent rewards mentioned above.

Cethleann Monks are just a sidepiece.Resonant White Magic sees very little use due to its limited range, and as a result, they're ultimately just an inferior form ofMacuil Evil Repelling Co. in terms of stat boosts. If you urguently need the gambit, there's an E-rank option inSeiros Sacred Monks out there. Don't bother using this battalion once you get it.

Battle

On Normal, the player can get away with not using Seteth, and if the player is going to attempt Crimson Flower, they do not need to use Flayn. On Maddening, the player may need to use Seteth to chip at the enemies, and for Crimson Flower, Flayn should only be used to heal and not fight as a way to not waste EXP.

You're on a beach for this battle, and the coastal terrain hinders most infantry and cavalry. Dismount your cavalry and bring plenty of mages and fliers, as they do not face movement penalties in the sand. Silence users such as Marianne, Manuela, and Yuri can completely shut down the bosses of the map. Send your fliers up the west side to clear out the shoals, preferably with a healer with Physic to keep them all alive. Meanwhile, everyone else should start wiping out the enemies on the beach. The Assassins are far and away the most dangerous enemies on the map; their high Speed doubles all but the swiftest of your units. However, they can only move three spaces through the sand, allowing magic users to outrun them and damage them without taking a counter. The enemy Mages deal very little damage and aren't very good at ganging up on you, though the Warlocks can do more damage. Just keep yourself healed, fight the enemies in small groups, and you'll come out on top. Take caution when confronting the northwesternBishop boss; he's packingAura, giving him a non-negligible chance to crit your units to death in a single hit, including Seteth, who is a game over condition. Note that the Priests will bolt once you take out the Bishop in the northwest, but seeing as you're standing right between them and their escape point on the south side of the map it only means they'll run right into your waiting blades. Otherwise, most enemies remain immobile until their group is provoked by a unit attacking them or entering their attack range, so you can take your time with this map without any repercussions.
