Amelia (Japanese:アメリアAmelia) is an orphan who appears inFire Emblem: The Sacred Stones. She joins theGrado army to serve her country, but is inexperienced in combat. The turmoils of war lead her to question her allegiance.

Role

Amelia first appears in a house inSerafew inChapter 5. She gathers supplies for her journey to theGrado capital, where she hopes to become the finest soldier Grado has ever seen.

In Eirika's route, Amelia appears again inChapter 9, where she is among a group of Grado soldiers sent to arrestEirika. If Eirika orFranz talks to her, Amelia realizes that Eirika is a caring individual, and defects to her side. She then accompanies Eirika for the rest of the journey. If no one talks to her and she survives, Amelia will leave the battlefield after a set number of turns.

If Amelia was not recruited or killed in Chapter 9, she appears for a third time inChapter 13, under the command ofAias. She can once again be recruited by either Eirika or Franz.

In Ephraim's route, Amelia appears inChapter 9, serving atFort Rigwald under the command ofGheb. When she hears Gheb insulting some of his soldiers, she speaks out, and gets put on the front lines as punishment. If eitherEphraim orFranz speaks to Amelia, they comment the fact that she is a new soldier and convince her to join their side. She then joins Ephraim's party and accompanies him for the rest of the journey.

Analysis

As atrainee unit, Amelia has very low base stats regardless of the route she's recruited in, and also has mediocre growth rates. As a result, Amelia would often get doubled or even killed in one hit by normal enemies as a result of her low stats. Amelia also has low constitution, only being able to use the Slim Lance without suffering any speed penalties.

Since Amelia is a trainee unit, she gains more experience than most other units. However, even after 10 levels and a promotion, she will be behind the rest of the army. Additionally, her unspectacular growth rates mean that she will not have particularly strong stats at any point of the game.

Amelia automatically promotes at the beginning of the next map once she reaches level 10. Allowing her to promote into one or three different classes: the Cavalier, Knight, or tier 2 Recruit (after both Eirika and Ephraim's routes have been completed). Promoting her into a Cavalier gives her a significant +3 in movement along with +2 in speed and con. Amelia also gains the ability to use swords, greatly improving her performance against axe users, who otherwise pose a massive threat. With these promotion gains, Amelia is able to use iron weapons unimpeded as well as having access toCanto. As a Knight, Amelia gains identical bonuses, but does not gain any movement or access to swords. However, Amelia can only use lances and could still get doubled easily. Tier 2 Recruit is similar to the Knight except it has +1 move in exchange for -4 constitution, so she will have worse speed when she needs it the most. Overall, the Cavalier gives Amelia much better bonuses than her other two options, with access to swords and much better movement outweighing the slight durability loss compared to the other two classes.

Upon a second promotion, Amelia is able to promote to Paladin, Great Knight, General, or Recruit, depending on the previous promotion. Stat-wise, all classes are more-or-less the same, with the biggest differences coming from the movement and weapon differences. Paladin is her best choice for the high movement. The Great Knight gains axes, but lances are Amelia's best weapon type, and does not compensate for the loss of 2 movement over the Paladin. The General has 1 less movement than the Great Knight, which means that General Amelia will lag behind the rest of the army. Its main advantage is its access to theGreat Shield skill, but the activation rate is unreliable and less generally applicable than the Great Knight'sCanto and +1 movement. Lastly, the tier 3 Recruit leaves her with less constitution and movement than the Paladin, so her combat and flexibility are both worse off.

Overall, Amelia is one of the weaker units inThe Sacred Stones due to her horrible bases making it hard for players to use her without grinding. While her higher experience gain makes training her quick, there are still better units that could be used instead of her.

Amelia is playable as aSpotPass character, released in theThe Sacred Stones character set. She is also present as an enemy in thesecond andthird installments of theSmash BrethrenDLC series.

Personality

Amelia is a cheerful new soldier who does her best while fighting. As a new soldier, she sometimes trips and often shows signs of a poor fighting stance, but she tries to practice whenever she can. According to her conversations withNeimi, she became a soldier because she wanted to become stronger, instead of having others always defending her. ToFranz, she says she decided to fight because she was alone and wanted to protect those she cared about. She is very truthful and honest, stating what she believes is true and her inner feelings to others. Amelia believes that the soldiers of armies are people and not just slaves and pawns. Overall, she is quite friendly and optimistic.

Amelia is a girl from the town ofSilva, in Grado. Her father died or left when Amelia was very young; she has no memories of him. She has no siblings or other family. When she was a child, her mother, named Melina, was captured by bandits as Amelia, able to do nothing, hid from them. This motivated her to become a soldier, along with a desire to honor GeneralDuessel and the country. In the village in Chapter 5, she declares that she will become the finest soldier of Grado. She has pride in her country, but when she is recruited in either route, she realizes that her superiors have been lying to her.

In her conversations with Duessel, he states that she looks very familiar. This is because of her mother, Melina. Duessel found Amelia's mother as an amnesiac captive of a group of bandits. They rescued her and placed her in a quiet village to help her restore her health. After regaining her health, she began to remember her old life, but when they went to Silva, Amelia had already left. Amelia's mother is still alive in the game's present time, and presumably, after the war is over they reunite.

Endings

Amelia, Rose of the War
Following the war, she returned to Grado to assist in her country's reconstruction. She surrounded herself with new friends and used the strength she found on the battlefield to live her life in happiness.

Franz and Amelia
Franz brought Amelia home with him to Renais. Amelia spent a short time in Renais's army, but once she and Franz were married, she retired her commission. The two had a daughter who grew to be a great knight herself.

Ross and Amelia
Amelia traveled to Ross's hometown, where she decided to remain. Over time, the two fell in love and were wed. Years later they had a son who grew into a warrior. As he grew in skill and strength, he surpassed even his father.

Ewan and Amelia
After the war, Ewan and Amelia set out, as promised, on a trip around the world. Their deeds along the way made small legends in the regions they visited. In time, Amelia gave birth to a daughter, and they settled down.

Duessel and Amelia
Upon their return to Grado, Duessel reunited Amelia with her mother. The two wept with joy, giving thanks to Duessel. Afterward, Amelia became the most trusted companion of the man once known as Obsidian.

Amelia is a brave young soldier from Grado. She doesn't have much combat experience yet, but great things are surely in store for this up-and-coming Hero!	Amelia was born and raised in a remote village, but sadly, her childhood was not as peaceful as you might think. One day, bandits raided the village, and Amelia's mother was kidnapped during the attack!	Frustrated at being powerless to save her mother, Amelia swore she'd become stronger and rushed to join the army.	What Amelia lacks in experience, she makes up for in sheer determination. I hope her adventures will see her reunited with her mother some day… I'm rooting for you, Amelia!

Amelia: Blossoming Talent
Amelia is a soldier-in-training who was born in a small village in a remote part of Magvel. Having fought her way through the trials of the battlefield alongside her allies, she has truly grown as a Hero!	Check out that gallant and robust armor she’s wearing! I suppose she must be taking inspiration from Duessel, one of Grado’s Imperial Three.	The lance she’s carrying is really something too. You know, Duessel himself once said that she was a talented lance wielder!	Amelia is ready to rise to any challenge with a smile on her face. I’m sure her earnest efforts will help guide us all to victory!
