Altina (pronounced /ælˈtinə/[key][3]; Japanese:オルティナOltina) was one of theThree Heroes of ancientTellius, the founder ofBegnion, and the original wielder of the swordsRagnell andAlondite.
Biography
Ashera's chosen
Altina was one of the strongest warriors in the service of the goddessAshera, and in the aftermath of theGreat Flood, she was chosen along withSoan andDheginsea to defeatYune after she was stripped from Ashera's being. To help her fight Yune, Ashera blessed Altina's twin swords and gave them the ability to pierce divine protection and harm Yune.[4] However, after subduing Yune, she andLehran regretted his idea to purge Yune to prevent future calamity, and the two eventually convinced Ashera to enter a covenant where, if humanity upheld a promise to not war for a millennium while the two goddesses slept, then Yune and Ashera would reunite. Altina pledged to achieve this on behalf of allbeorc.[5]
The first Branded
The era of the sleeping goddesses began peacefully, with the foundation of the Kingdom ofBegnion as a place where both laguz and beorc could co-exist inthe year -131. Altina became the kingdom's first queen and took Lehran as both her husband and an advisor. Four years into the kingdom's life, Altina became pregnant, the first known time that a laguz-beorc couple had ever conceived a child together. Her friends Dheginsea and Soan believed that the child would become a symbol of peace between the two races, but after the child was born, Lehran lost all of his laguz abilities. This news horrified both Lehran, who was shattered by the loss of his very identity, and Dheginsea, who believed that this development would harm relations between the two races.[6]
Lehran came to the difficult decision that he must disappear from history, under the pretense of having died in an accident, and that the child's birth must be covered up as a false rumor. Lehran then departed Begnion to enter seclusion with Dheginsea inGoldoa. Eventually, Altina re-married and raised her child with Lehran as though it were a beorc born of her new husband.[1] In order to prevent Lehran's fate being met by any other laguz, it became widely believed that laguz-beorc relationships were a sin against the goddess, and both laguz and beorc developed intense, systemic bigotry against the results of such a union, which became known as theBranded. However, Dheginsea soon realized that he, Altina, and Lehran had made the wrong decision in covering up Lehran's fate, and for the rest of his life he carried the guilt of their decision causing the suffering of the Branded.[7]
Legacy
While Altina's child appeared for all purposes to be a normal beorc child, the powers granted by Lehran's bloodline eventually surfaced thirty-six years later in Altina's granddaughter, Yoram. Having inherited Lehran's communion with the goddess, Yoram successfully predicted the coming of a great famine in Begnion, and for this prediction she was hailed for her ability to hear the voice of the goddess and became the first of Begnion's apostles. This later led to the reorganization of Begnion into an empire under Altina's descendant, Apostle Meshua.[8] Altina's own name also became the surname of her descendants (for example, "Sanaki Kirsch Altina"), although very few in Begnion were ever aware of the full names of their apostles or of Altina's presence in their names.[9]
Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance
Role
Altina does not appear at all, but throughout most of the game, one ofIke andMist's goals is to find "a girl named Altina" and pass the lyrics of thegaldr of release on to her. In the game's epilogue,Sephiran reveals Altina's true identity as the ancient founder of Begnion, and that said girl is actually supposed to beSanaki.
Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn
Role
Altina has a voice-acted speaking role in a flashback of the opening ofthe fourth part of the Part IV, Endgame, whenMicaiah/Yune receives a vision of the bargain she and Lehran made with Ashera to spare Yune. Additionally, an illustration of Altina,Soan andDheginsea fighting is used as the background for the default title screen ofRadiant Dawn, although after clearing the game it alternates with an image ofAshunera and theZunanma.
Fire Emblem Heroes
Role
There are three different variations of Altina available toHeroes. The normal variation of Altina is the game's seventh Mythic Hero, and as such was added to the game in a dedicated Mythic Hero update, and was made available for summoning as part of a summoning event released on November 28, 2019. A winter variation of Altina was made available on December 17, 2020 as part of the summoning event surrounding the launch of theA Festival Miracle update; this variation is a Harmonized Hero, carrying a dual-credit withPath of Radiance as a result of being paired up with that game'sSanaki. A version of Altina themed to theNabata desert was added to the game on January 19, 2024, and was first available to summon from then to February 19, 2024.

Trivia
- Despite being added as a playable character inHeroes in 2019, Altina could not be voted for in the 2020 running ofChoose Your Legends; she was first made an option in the 2021 poll.
- In Part III, Chapter 11 ofRadiant Dawn, Sanaki tells Ike that the Ragnell "was used by Empress Altina, the first apostle of Begnion." However, during the time of Altina, Begnion was still a kingdom, so neither was Altina an empress nor Begnion an empire. Additionally, Altina herself was not an apostle; Begnion's first apostle was her granddaughter. The correct history of Begnion can be read from Lethe and Jill's B support inPath of Radiance.

Nasir: Just so. Lehran was forced to make a very difficult decision to protect the peace between beorc and laguz. He decided to retreat into seclusion and consider the problem. Once he regained his sanity, he announced his decision.
Gareth: Lehran was forced to ask the unthinkable of his wife, his aides, and close friends For the sake of Begnion, you must tell the people that I died in an accident. Tell them the birth was merely a false rumor.
Nasir: Lehran left the medallion to his tribe, moving to Goldoa under King Dheginsea's protection. He simply disappeared from history after that.
Gareth: After Lehran had left and life returned to normal, Altina eventually welcomed a beorc husband. She raised the child she'd had with Lehran as though it were an ordinary beorc child, born of her new husband." —Kurthnaga,Nasir, andGareth,Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn - ↑2.02.12.2FE PoR: The History of Tellius (P. 08) Translation | kantopia, www.kantopia.wordpress.com,Retrieved: 4 October 2024

She empowered the dual swords of the beorc swordswoman, Altina. The laguz warrior, Soan, and Dheginsea, the leader of the dragon tribe, were also blessed." —Yune,Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn
- ↑"Ashera: Lehran, you have ever been a wise and kind-hearted child. In deference to you, I will place my faith in your kind one last time. For the next thousand years, I shall sleep as well. When I wake again, I hope it is to a world of peace and order, where all prosper as equals. If I do, then I will know that you have advised me well. I will reward your counsel. I will also allow Yune to return to me. I will once again be the goddess of creation, whole and complete. Ashunera, the Dawn Goddess... The name your ancestors gave me so long ago. I should like to hear it again. However, during this thousand years, if the chaos of war should arise and awaken Yune from her slumber in the medallion... I will know that you have strayed from your path, and I will punish your failure as I would reward your success. And then you will know my judgment. You will pay for your sins, each of you to the last.
Lehran: In the names of our people, we vow to keep this covenant. There will be no great war between laguz and beorc for a thousand years. So pledge Altina of the beorc, Dheginsea of the dragon tribes, Soan of the beast tribes, and I, Lehran, of the bird tribes." —Ashera andLehran,Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn - ↑"Gareth: As you wish, Your Majesty. In the dawn of this age, after the goddesses began their long slumber, the kingdom of Begnion was established. In those early days, laguz and beorc lived side by side in harmony and peace. Yes, that kingdom would become the Begnion Empire. The hero Altina was chosen to be the kingdom's first queen. Lehran supported her as an advisor...and as a husband.
Micaiah: What!?
Nasir: Despite their differences, Lehran and Altina loved each other very deeply.
Kurthnaga: The people accepted a marriage between a laguz and a beorc?
Nasir: That was what King Dheginsea said. This was before the people thought of such differences. They saw only a queen and her husband.
Gareth: At this time, King Dheginsea also created his own kingdom far from other laguz tribes and beorc nations. He believed that the dragon tribe was too powerful to interact equally with other tribes and peoples. That kingdom became Goldoa.
Nasir: Begnion had been established for four years when King Dheginsea received news that Altina had become pregnant. The news brought great joy. You see, the news was also quite surprising. There had been other unions between beorc and laguz, but until Altina's pregnancy, no children had ever been conceived. Indeed, hers was the first child ever to be born of beorc and laguz.
Gareth: As close friends of both Altina and Lehran, both King Dheginsea and Soan rejoiced at the news. The child would be the first to carry the joined blood of both laguz and beorc. The king said that the baby would become a symbol of peace between the two peoples.
Nasir: But joy over the child's birth did not last. Soon after the child was born, Lehran lost all the powers of the laguz. He could not transform any longer, nor could he sing galdrar.
Gareth: It became apparent that the child of such a union neutralizes the laguz parent's powers. To make matters worse, the child bears only the characteristics of a beorc.
Nasir: Lehran felt he was no longer a true laguz, and felt he could no longer act as a bridge between the goddess and the people of Tellius. He lost hope, and also his mind...at least temporarily. He attempted suicide several times, which is an unthinkable taboo for anyone who has sworn to serve the goddess.
Gareth: King Dheginsea fell into despair. If people caught wind of this news, he believed it would create a deep rift between the two peoples. The king was especially concerned about the reaction from the laguz. They might interpret the birth as a herald of their eventual end. Some might even attempt to harm the child." —Gareth,Micaiah,Nasir, andKurthnaga,Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn - ↑"It was King Dheginsea's opinion that these were crimes that he had to carry on his conscience. From the beginning, he realized that he and the others in power had made a mistake. They understood that they should have revealed everything about Altina and Lehran's child. The people should have been told the truth. But since they'd kept the truth from everyone, the Branded were marked as unclean, persecuted wherever they traveled." —Gareth,Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn

Ike: Who is it?
Sephiran: Sanaki Kirsch Altina... None other than the apostle herself.

Sephiran: No, there are very few who know that name." —Sephiran andIke,Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance
