Have you already forgotten how my only daughter, my Aida, gave her life to protect you from that fiend Manfroy?
— Cohen, toSaias

Aida (Japanese:アイーダAida) was an esteemed general of theVelthomer army, leader of theRotritter, and a confidante to DukeArvis. She was the daughter ofCohen, another Velthomer general, and with Arvis was the mother of the renowned tacticianSaias.

Biography

Around Grann 747-749[1], Aida was involved in a relationship with Arvis; nothing is known about this relationship, except that it yielded an illegitimate son,Saias, who alone of Arvis's three children inherited his majorFjalar Holy Blood. This relationship presumably ended long before Grann 757, but the two remained on good terms with Aida continuing to serve as a prominent general.

In Grann 761, Aida led the Velthomer army at Velthomer Castle itself in the defense of Grannvale, in preparation for the "traitorous"Sigurd's return to the country, stationingMeteor-wielding mages atop cliffs around the Velthomer and westernAed Desert area. Deployed with her was DukeReptor ofFriege and his army, who was suspicious of Arvis's intent but complied nonetheless. As soon as Sigurd's army approached Velthomer, Aida issued the command for all Velthomer forces to turn on Reptor and attack his army, in accordance with Arvis's plan; between Aida's mages and Sigurd's army, Reptor's group was overwhelmed and defeated. Once Reptor was defeated, Aida directed Sigurd toBelhalla to receive a ceremonial welcome from Arvis and the Rotritter, an event which turned into theBattle of Belhalla.

At some point in the following years, Aida was killed byManfroy of theLoptr Church in a bid to protect Saias from them; in response, Cohen sent Saias to an isolated monastery in which to hide and learn, in preparation for the day where his abilities would grant him enough public esteem to afford him protection.[2]

Fire Emblem: Genealogy of the Holy War

Role

Aida appears inChapter 5 as the boss of the Velthomer army. When a player unit nears Velthomer Castle, Aida appears and the Velthomer army becomes neutral, attackingReptor's army. Sigurd must talk to Aida to clear the chapter.

The area that a unit must enter to cause Aida to appear can be bypassed. Doing so allows Sigurd to seize Velthomer, which ends the chapter without any further cutscenes, and Aida makes no further appearances.

Personality

A loyal attendant to Arvis, Aida was capable of effortlessly lying in order to trick Reptor and Sigurd in accordance with Arvis's battle plans. She was dismissive of Reptor, considering him foolish.[3]

Battle quotes

Reptor: Aida... How dare you! You treacherous wretch...
Aida: Hah! You're as sore a loser as I expected, Reptor. You'd do well to surrender now.

Trivia

  • Despite having aMiracle Sword in her inventory, it is impossible for Aida to ever use it in legitimate gameplay. The only remaining enemy units on the map, the Friege units, are set to never end their turn directly in front of Velthomer's castle gate, thus preventing Aida from ever being able to attack anything at 1-range.

After that, I hid you in an isolated church and withstood Manfroy's relentless threats. And years later... Your ability was recognized, and you became the court bishop of Velthomer. I was happy that Manfroy wouldn't be able to touch you in your status. However, with Lord Julius's awakening, the Loptous Church's power is beginning to surpass that of the Empire's. Saias...I know you're aware of the Brand of Fjalar that has appeared on your body. Neither Lord Julius nor Lady Julia has it... and that's what Manfroy is afraid of. Saias, you must live. You are a Crusader of Fjalar...you must pass on the blood of Velthomer. And for now, you must hide that fact and nurture your power..." —Cohen,Fire Emblem: Thracia 776
