Mm. Everything's in place. This Princess Eirika supposedly defeated General Glen. I wonder... If it's true, then she's a foe to be reckoned with, and no doubt. Still, there's no reason to worry. I can best her. I know it.
— Aias

Aias (Japanese:アイアスAias) is aboss appearing inEirika's route ofFire Emblem: The Sacred Stones. He is an old friend ofCaellach and a mercenary working for theGrado Empire.

Fire Emblem: The Sacred Stones

Role

Aias appears as the primary boss ofChapter 13 ofEirika's route; he makes no appearances duringEphraim's route. While Eirika makes her way to Jehanna,Caellach tasks Aias with the interception of Renais's army. Caellach warns Aias thatRausten is sending reinforcements from the north, but reassures Aias that he will take care of them. Caellach also warns that Eirikasupposedly killedGlen and that she is an opponent to be reckoned with.

Despite the later assistance of the chapter's secondary boss,Pablo, Aias is unsuccessful in defeating Eirika. He is either defeated by her forces or forced to flee from reinforcements from Rausten that Caellach apparently failed to stop.

If Aias flees at the end of the chapter, Caellach implies that he had never planned on distracting Rausten's reinforcements to any effective degree. Aias appears unsurprised[2] as Caellach then tells him he wants no connections to his past as aJehannan mercenary. Caellach then finishes Aias off and leaves to rejoin the Grado army.

Personality

Aias joined theGrado Empire at the behest ofCaellach,[1] though he has little personal investment in climbing the army's ranks.[3] Aias appears to have heard Caellach's desire to become a king several times,[4] but, like his lack of desire for Grado titles, does not appear to share Caellach's ambition of becoming a king. Aias's own lack of ambition may be why Caellach thought he was being held back by him and felt the need to eliminate him.

Aias is famous for apparently never losing a battle during his career as a mercenary.[5] Because of this he is very confident on the field of battle. He is surprised if he is defeated byEirika's forces and commendsRenais's tactician.

Quotes

Battle quotes

It's not over yet. Victory still hangs in the balance. The key is defeating the enemy commander, but...
— Aias, inThe Sacred Stones.
Aias: Ah... So here you are. The princess Eirika.
Eirika: Who?
Aias: You're not at all what I had expected... I would test the arm that bested Glen.

— AgainstEirika.

Death quote

Very...impressive. You've pierced the battle formations I'd perfected... No one's ever done that. Renais's tactician has earned my highest regard.
— Aias, inThe Sacred Stones.

Retreat quote

Rausten knights?! That means Caellach's-- Curses... All troops! Retreat at once!
— Aias, inThe Sacred Stones, should Aias still be alive at the end of the final turn of Chapter 13 (Eirika's route).
