Plot

Lorenz realizes thatEdelgard would not put herself in debt to anyone if there was any other option, and that the situation must be truly dire. If Edelgard falls at Garreg Mach, the Empire will fall apart since she has no heirs. Refusing to repeathis mistake in Ailell,Claude sets out to rescue the Imperial forces. Federation relievers reinforce Edelgard, defeatDimitri andRhea, and drive off the Kingdom and Church. IfJeralt wasslain previously, theSothis-possessedByleth appears after the battle to claimShez's head in revenge. Shez battles and finally slays the Ashen Demon.Arval celebrates their victory and notes that they feel like they have finally completed a seemingly endless quest, but Shez only feels hollow. In either case, Claude meets Edelgard after the battle to discuss their visions for the future ofFódlan. Edelgard believes peace cannot come to the continent until Faerghus has been completely destroyed, but Claude believes that Dimitri is setting things up so that he can safely cut the Central Church loose without endangering the Kingdom any further. If Jeralt and Byleth were recruited by the Federation, a messenger informs Claude and Edelgard that the Kingdom and Church are fleeing north and that Shez and Byleth are in pursuit. Claude and Edelgard both elect to give chase. As Shez and Byleth continue their pursuit, Shez suddenly declares in Arval's voice that "the time has finally come" and attacks Byleth.
