A Contest of Beasts is the seventh chapter ofFire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes on the Golden Wildfire route.

Plot

The Alliance Roundtable authorizesClaude's invasion ofAdrestia.Count Bergliez, his sonCaspar, andJeralt's Mercenaries prepare to defend the Imperial border. Meanwhile, anotherAlmyran invasion force led byShahid and the reluctantNader begin making forLeicester's eastern border. Claude leads the Alliance troops into battle with the Empire, andHolst takes the opportunity to face and defeat Count Bergliez in single combat. However, Claude unexpectedly calls a retreat.Byleth attacks the Alliance forces as they pull back, but is confronted byShez. However, before Shez can defeat Byleth, Byleth's hair suddenly changes color and they begin speaking in the voice of a young girl. Shez barely escapes when Byleth manages to regain control of their body. Claude explains that the Almyrans are leading an even stronger invasion force than the one routed two years ago. As the Alliance departs, Shez floats the idea of hiring Byleth, much toArval's shock. Meanwhile, Byleth confronts the being who possessed them, the progenitor godSothis. Sothis explains that she can forcibly take over Byleth's body at any time she wishes. Count Bergliez elects not to pursue the retreating Alliance forces, correctly deducing that Almyra is attacking. Having come to respect Holst and the Alliance, he petitionsEdelgard to end hostilities with Leicester. Edelgard accepts Count Bergliez's request and orders an envoy to be sent to Claude.
