KENNETH ROMNEY DIES IN ARLINGTON
HAMILTON, April 6. -- (AP) -- Kenneth Romney, 66, former sergeant-at-arms of the United States House of Representatives, died Sunday at his Arlington, Va., home, friends here were advised.
Romney was a Montana Democrat appointed to the House staff in 1915. He served as cashier in the office of the sergeant-at-arms, which acts as paymaster and banker of House members. In 1931 he was appointed sergeant-at-arms.
In 1947 he was convicted of a charge of concealing a shortage in House bank accounts, estimated at around $121,000 and was sentenced to from one to three years. He was released from jail in 1949 after serving a year.
Romney was born in Missoula and corresponded for newspapers in the Northwest after coming to Washington. He is survived by his widow, Edna, and a son, Kenneth, Jr., both of Washington.
Funeral and burial services will be held here.
