U.S. Congressman. He graduated from Presbyterian Academy, studied law, was admitted to the bar in 1897, and commenced to practice law in Mount Vernon, Missouri. He also was successful in agricultural pursuits, in the livestock business and in the general development of Southwest Missouri. In 1923, he was elected as a Republican to the Sixty-eighth Congress and to the next four succeeding Congresses, serving until 1933. An unsuccessful candidate for reelection, he resumed the practice of law and was one of the delegates to write a new constitution for the State of Missouri in 1943. He also continued his previous business interests until his death.
