Philadelphia Mayor. He was born to Abraham Inskeep and Sarah Ward Inskeep on the family's homestead which at the time was located near Marlton, New Jersey, in the section of Evesham Township, New Jersey. He was educated locally and later served as a Member of the New Jersey Militia and took part in the Battle of Princeton in Princeton, New Jersey, during the American Revolutionary War on January 3, 1777. He also fought in other military battles. Following his military service, he decided to enter politics. He married Sarah Hulings and they had a daughter, Abigail Inskeep who was born in 1778. He ran for the office of the Mayor of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and he was elected on October 20, 1800, replacing the outgoing Mayor Robert Wharton, who at the time had been the longest-serving Mayor of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, serving for fifteen terms. Wharton at the time had declined to be nominated for another term and so an election was held and Inskeep won. He served in the position of the Mayor of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, from October of 1800 to October of 1801. Following his term, he was succeeded in office by incoming Mayor Matthew Lawler. He then served as an Associate Judge of the Common Pleas from 1802 to 1805. He then ran for another term for the office of Mayor of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and was elected to replace the outgoing Mayor Matthew Lawler. He served his second term as the Mayor of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, from October of 1802 to October of 1805, and was replaced by incoming Mayor Robert Wharton. During this time he was also elected as the Director of the Insurance Company of North America in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and served in that position beginning in 1802. He was named the President of the Insurance Company of North America when Charles Pettit passed away in 1806 and served in that position until 1831. He then retired from the company due to ill health. He passed away on December 18, 1834, at the age of 78, and was buried in the Christ Church Burial Ground in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. His wife Sarah passed away on January 17, 1842, and she was buried with her husband.
