He was the mayor of Syracuse NY in 1854.

A life sketch of the late Hon. Allen Munroe

The Hon. Allen Munroe, who died at his home No. 105 East Genesee street, at 7:30 a.m. yesterday, was born in the town of Elbridge, on March 10, 1819. At an early age he entered the Munroe Collegiate Institute of that place, and prepared to enter college as a sophomore. After completing his course in that institution he changed his mind regarding a collegiate career and went to Auburn, where he became a clerk in a dry goods store. At the age of 21 he returned to Elbridge and opened a store. In 1846 he married Miss Julia Townsend, of Albany. One year later he came to Syracuse and became the agent of several of the heirs interested in the old Syracuse company. A few years afterward he entered the milling business in company with J.W. Barker, whose partner he remained until the failure of the firm.
In 1854 Mr. Munroe was elected mayor of the city and remained in office one term. He was elected by the Republicans to the State Senate in 1860 and again in 1862. In 1876 he was elected assemblyman from the First district of this county. He had also served as supervisor. For a number of years he was a trustee of the Onondaga County Savings bank, secretary and treasurer of the State Idiot Asylum and secretary of the Syracuse Gas Light company, besides being connected with various other institutions and commercial enterprises.
Mr. Munroe’s death resulted from congestion of the lungs, caused by a cold which he contracted three weeks ago. His recovery was considered probable until within a short time before his death. The survivors of his family are his wife, three sons and three daughters. The sons, Theodore T., Howard C. and Robert T., are business men living in Ocala, Florida. One of the daughters, Mrs. David Williams lives in the same place. The other daughters, Miss Annie M. Munroe and Miss Abbie S. Munroe, are living at the family home. Mrs. Robert Townsend and Mrs. J.B. Burnet, of this city, are sisters of the deceased.
