ANDERSON, Ind. , April 4. Last rites for Dale J. Crittenberger, age eighty-two, Editor of the Anderson Daily Bulletin, former Auditor of State and Indiana Democratic leader more than a half century who died of a heart ailment at his home in Anderson early Sunday, will be held Tuesday at 4 p.m. at the Albright Funeral Home. Burial will be in Maplewood Cemetery.

Mr. Crittenberger had been at his desk in the Bulletin office Saturday and became ill about 10 o'clock that night. His survivors are three sons, George D. Crittenberger, Managing Editor of the Daily Bulletin; Lieutenant-Colonel Willis D. Crittenberger, Ft. Knox, Kentucky; John D. Crittenberger, Indianapolis; daughter, Miss Juliet Crittenberger, a trustee of the Anderson Public Library; and two sisters, Mrs. Lydia Gillespie, Elwood, and Mrs. Esta Ringo, Middletown.

Dean L. Barnhart, Goshen, President of the Indiana Democratic Editorial Association, today named a special committee of leading Democratic editors of the State to represent the Association at the Crittenberger funeral. Members of the committee are Ray E. Smith, Indianapolis, chairman; Frank Finney, Martinsville; Dick Heller, secretary to Governor M. Clifford Townsend; Wray E. Fleming, Shelbyville; E. C. Gorrell, Winamac; Paul L. Feltus, Bloomington; and Frank G. Thompson, Bluffton.

Mr. Crittenberger was a native of Virginia, but with the exception of one year in infancy, all of his life was spent in Indiana. He was born at Harrisburg, Virginia, on December 31, 1955, a son of Isaac and Sarah Crittenberger, who moved their family to Middletown, Ind. in 1856. Mr. Crittenberger attended schools around Middleton and began teaching school at the age of sixteen. He worked his way through Indiana University from which he was graduated in 1878, and then located n Anderson where he began the practice of law. In 1883, he was elected Superintendent of the Madison County public schools and served four years.

In 1884, he became publisher of a weekly newspaper, the Anderson Democrat, for which he had been a reporter. A few years later, he began publication of the Daily News, also Democratic. In 1908, the News and the Anderson Daily Bulletin were merged, and Mr. Crittenberger became Editor of the Bulletin.

Mr. Crittenberger was Postmaster of Anderson in 1893-97, Secretary of the Indiana Senate in 1910, and in 1914 was elected Auditor of State. His political and newspaper activities covered a period of sixty years. He was active in the Indiana Democratic Editorial Association, of which he was one of six surviving charter members.

Mr. Crittenberger married Effie A. Daniels in Anderson in 1884. She died in 1925.

He was a member of the Anderson Commandery, Knights Templar, and was a director of the Anderson Loan Association many years. Among his business associates in the Bulletin were Thomas McCullough, President and Manager of the Bulletin Company, and Edward A Daniels, a brother-in-law, Secretary-Treasurer.
