US Congressman. He immigrated to New York City, with his family in 1891, attended the public schools and the College of the City of New York. He graduated from the New York University Law School in 1907, was admitted to the bar in 1909 and commenced to practice in New York City. He was a special deputy attorney general of the State of New York (1912-14), a member of the New York State Assembly, (1915-17). In 1920, he was elected as a Republican to the Sixty-sixth Congress to fill the vacancy caused by the resignation of Fiorello H. LaGuardia, reelected to the Sixty-seventh, Sixty-eighth and Sixty-ninth Congresses and served until 1927. An unsuccessful candidate for reelection, he resumed the practice of law and was magistrate of the City of New York, (1935-36). In 1936, he was appointed justice of the court of special sessions of the City of New York and served until his death at age 64. Note: his grave marker has the wrong date of birth.
