Funeral Mass for James Edward Bane, 66 was celebrated at St. Thomas More Catholic Church in Brookings Tuesday with Fr. John McEneaney celebrant, Interment was in St. Mary's Cemetery at Elkton.

Mr. Bane, long time Brookings realtor and former state official died suddenly Saturday morning, Sept. 8.

Active pallbearers were M.F. Connelly, Ray Barnett, Harvey Wakeman, Shirley Seas, Rudy Foerster and Francis Thill. Honorary pallbearers were J.J. Connelly, Floyd Durland, Grover Buckley, Joseph (Cy) Smith, Floyd Poole and Frank Neal.

Mr. Bane was born March 20, 1896 in Brookings County and had lived in the county all his life, attending rural schools in the county. He was a member of the American Legion, 40 et 8, Elks Lodge, and the Knights of Columbus. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War I.

He married Agnes Organ, Sept. 28, 1926.

Mr Bane farmed on the family homestead during his early years and later served with the Rural Credits Dept. of the state of South Dakota. He had served on the State Veterans Commission and was for many years chairman of the Brookings County Republican Central Committee and was active in state affairs.

He had been in the real estate business in Brookings for nearly 20 years when he sold his business in February 1961 to George Erger. In April of this year he joined in partnership with Glen Rhodes in forming the Ban-Rhodes real estate firm.

Survivors include his widow and brother, Vincent P. (Spud) Bane of Sioux Falls. His parents, for sisters and a brother preceded him in death.

Bartling's Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
