He was born July 26, 1922, in Hillsboro, Ohio to Carl O. Yeager and Stella McCall Yeager. He graduated from Wayne State University with a B.S. Degree and lived in Bloomfield Hills, Harbor Springs and Birmingham, Michigan. While living in Michigan, he was very active in the Republican Party, holding several positions. He was elected to the Michigan State Legislature and also ran for Secretary of State. Governor George Romney appointed him as Director of the Michigan Workman's Compensation Department where he served for four years prior to starting his own insurance company. He moved to Ocean Ridge, Florida, and later Palm Beach following his retirement. While living in Ocean Ridge he served a term as mayor. Mr. Yeager was a generous philanthropist, supporting many charities; as well as The Royal Poinciana Chapel in Palm Beach, where he was a member.
Mr. Yeager was also a member of the Four Arts, Beach Club, Club Colette, Old Guard Society, Palm Beach Yacht Club, and the English Speaking Union. Mr. Yeager also served in the Army Air Forces during World War II, and left the service with the rank of Captain.
He is also survived by his son, Mark Yeager; his stepson David Gilman; his three granddaughters; one great- granddaughter; and his brother, David Yeager. Other survivors include an adopted daughter, Carey Yeager; an adopted son, Skye Yeager; a step-granddaughter Shana Gilman; and a step-grandson, Thomas E. Gilman, V. Mr. Yeager was preceded in death by his son, Richard Yeager; and step-son, Thomas E. Gilman, IV.
A service will be held at graveside on Tuesday (today), May 3, 2011 at 2:00 PM, EDT at Roselawn Cemetery in Tallahassee. A memorial service is being planned for later this month at The Royal Poinciana Chapel in Palm Beach. The Rev. Dr. Robert Norris is officiating.
