JACOB FULTON HALDERMAN
Jacob Fulton Halderman, eldest son of William J. Halderman and Ida Fulton Halderman, was born on June 13, 1874, in Mission Creek Precinct, Pawnee County, Nebraska, and died after a lingering illness in Pawnee City on March 10, 1952.
His father, William J. Halderman, was elected county treasurer of Pawnee county in 1881, at which time the family moved to Pawnee City where they resided until 1885 when the family moved to Burchard for a number of years and "Jake" as he was familiarly known grew to manhood and worked in the bank.
On September 15, 1899 he was united in marriage to Blanche (Doll) Brown. Their first home was in Tecumseh, and from there they moved to St. Joseph where he worked for the Missouri Commission Company. From St. Joseph they moved to Iola, Kansas, and then to Wymore where he engaged in the banking business. From Wymore they moved to Pawnee City. Where Mr. Halderman has resided for 39 years. After coming to Pawnee City, Mr. Halderman was associated with and cashier of the first State Bank of Pawnee City until about 1925. Since about the year 1932 he has been engaged in the insurance, real estate and loan business until about two years ago when failing health made retirement necessary. For many years he was secretary-treasurer of the Pawnee County National Farm Loan Association.
Mr. Halderman was very active in the political, business, and social life of his state, county and city. He was state senator for Pawnee and Gage counties for two terms, a member of the constitutional convention of 1920 which re-wrote and framed a new constitution for the state of Nebraska. He was elected county treasurer of Pawnee County and served in such office from 1927 to 1931. He was for many years interested in agricultural pursuits and affairs and served on the state and county fair boards. He was a lover of horses and for many years served as judge of the harness races at both the Pawnee county and state fairs, and for 14 years served as speed secretary of the state board.
On May 5, 1929 he became a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Pawnee City and continued to be a faithful and loyal member of that church until his death. He was a member of the various Masons organizations and of the Odd Fellows Lodge of Pawnee city and the Shrine of Lincoln.
Mr. Halderman was preceded in death by his wife, Blanche, who died April 4, 1929 and by a brother, Finlay (Dick) Halderman, and a sister, Margaret Halderman. He leaves surviving him, two brothers, Charles W. Haldeerman and Frank Halderman, both of Astoria, Ore. and several nephews and nieces and many friends.
