From the Saline, Michigan Observer, Thursday, May 24, 1894, under the section for news from around the state of Michigan:

Judge Gouverneur Morris died at Monroe, aged 83. He was born in Springfield, Vt., and his grand uncle was Gouverneur Morris, who was the writer of the constitution of the United States.

    Photo furnished to me by former secretary of the board for Woodland Cemetery. This marker is located in the Morris Mausoleum, with no entry to it. The markers were taken out and cleaned, building was welded shut.

    b 1 Feb 1809 Springfield, Windsor Co., VT

    Named for his Great UncleGouverneur Morris, the statesman to whom President Madison gave the credit of clothing the constitution of the United States in it present form of words; who afterwards received from President Washington the appointment of Minister to France, where, through all the bloody scenes of the French Revolution, he was the only representative of a foreign government who remained faithfully at his post of duty. Three years after his marriage removed to New York City. In 1840 he came to MI, settling at Brest, Monroe Co., MI. In 1855 he removed to Monroe City. In 1860 he was elected county treasurer. In 1860 he is listed as a Lawyer
