From Rootsweb, William was the son of Daniel Candler b 1695, and Hannah.

William lived in Virginia, and moved to Georgia in 1762. In 1771 he became Deputy Surveyor. He served in the Revolutionary War under General Elijah Clarke. He also served as a colonal and commanded a Georgia military unit with Captain Patrick Carr.

His last known address was Columbia Co. Ga. I am placing him here on Findagrave as having been buried in Columbia Co. as that is the last place he was known to have lived. No one knows where exactly he is buried but he is said to be buried 4 miles east of the Mt. Carmel Plantation.

William was the son of Daniel and Anna Candler. William married Elizabeth Anthony and they had four known children:

1. Mary Candler Few
2. Falby Candler
3. William Candler
4. Charles Candler
5. John Candler
6. Amelia Candler
7. Joseph Candler
8. Henry Candler b 1762
9. Elizabeth Candler b 1768
10. Mark Anthony Candler b 1778
11. Daniel Candler b Feb 1791.

Birth and death dates and parents are from the Book: "Of One Dozen Sasser's" by Claudia Chitwood Weller.

Thoughts and comments from contributor jrigdon:

Mary, dau of Wm Candler married Ignatius Few s/o William Few from Kennett, Pa. Wm and family had lived in North Carolina but his son James was murdered there by Tories during the NC Regulator movement. Fews then moved to Wrightsborough Ga. 1776 letter to Georgia Governor Wright lists Benjamin Few (James' brother) as one of the non-Quaker land owners in Wrightsborough township. However I think that they were originally Quakers. FYI James' sister Elizabeth married Col Greenberry Lee a close relative of Gen Robert E Lee. James' brother Colonel William Few, Jr., was the first U. S. Senator from Georgia, a Signer of the Constitution from Georgia, and at one time Mayor of New York City.

Among Candler's descendants was Allen D. Candler, Governor of Georgia 1898-1902. Candler laid out an extensive family tree in his book, "Colonel William Candler Of Georgia. His Ancestry and Progeny." published in 1896.

Colonel Candler was one of the Heroes who fought at the Battle of King's Mountain on October 7, 1780. Draper documented this in his tome, "King's Mountain and Its Heroes." He wrote: "and beyond Shelbj' were respectively Williams' command, including Brandon, Hammond, and Candler ; then the South Carolinians under Lacey, Hathorne, and Steen, with the remainder of the Wilkes and Surry men under Cleveland."
