*The son of former state Senator Edwin C. and Gertrude Sherlock Ewing, he was born in Coraopolis, February 14, 1929, married (1) Catherine Clark Cameron and (2) Christine; step children Heidi, Craig Deifenderfer, Jeffrey Baum, son James, daughter Sandra. He was seated November 29, 1967; employed with Columbia Gas before public life; was a township commissioner and replaced his father in the Senate, after his death on May 3, 1963. He served on the Local Government Commission, 1973-1976; and after the Senate, he served as an associate director for the Associated Petroleum Institute of Pennsylvania until he retired. He died in West Chester, March 19, 2010.

Wayne S. Ewing
Former State Senator Wayne S. Ewing, 81, died on Friday, March 19, 2010 in West Chester, PA, at the home of his stepdaughter, Heidi Romeiser and family. He died in the arms of his full time caregiver and wife, Chris, while other family members and clergy laid loving hands on him.
Born February 14, 1929 in Coraopolis, PA, he was son of the late Edwin C. and Gertrude Sherlock Ewing; attended Kiski School, graduated from Mt. Lebanon High School and Penn State University where he was a member of Delta Sigma Phi fraternity. Wayne was a veteran of the Korean War.
Sen. Ewing is survived by his devoted wife Christine (Chris) of 15 years after knowing her for more than 40 years. Immediate family survivors are stepdaughter, Heidi with whom they resided for 10 months of his long illness, her husband Bob and three children Kyle, Jake and Sam of West Chester, PA.: stepson Craig Diefenderfer, of Downingtown, PA and his wife, Rene and children Aaron, Andrew and Tiffany; stepson Jeffrey Baum of Plano, Texas and his wife, Lori and sons Alex and Matt; son James and his wife Pam and two daughters Katie and Courtney in Indiana and daughter Sandra and husband Mike in Maryland and granddaughter Lydia in Texas. Wayne was preceded in death by his brother Laird of FL.
Prior to Wayne's public service, he was employed by Columbia Gas and began his government service as a township commissioner. He succeeded his late father as a member of the PA Senate, representing Allegheny County from 1967 - 1976. During his senate tenure, Wayne made significant legislative contributions and served as a member of the Local Government Commission from 1973-1976. Following the Senate, he joined Associated Petroleum Institute of Pennsylvania as Associate Director until retirement. He then proudly supported his wife's "behind-the-scenes" political and government service for almost 10 years.
Wayne was an Elder at Pine Street Presbyterian Church and proudly remained active as long as possible. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed boating on the Chesapeake Bay. Among his avocations, Wayne was a reader, primarily history; loved flowers and latch-hooking rugs for family and friends. Prior to his illness, he was a Judge of Elections in Lower Paxton Township.
Memorial Service will be held at 11 am on Saturday, March 27, 2010, at Pine Street Presbyterian Church, Third & Pine Streets, Harrisburg. Relatives and friends are welcome. Visitation will begin at 9:30 am and refreshments will follow the Memorial Service. Interment will be in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens, 4855 Londonderry Rd., Lower Paxton Township, Harrisburg, PA after the reception.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Pine Street Presbyterian Church, 310 N. Third Street, Harrisburg, PA. 17101.
