Death of Hon. George W. Schuyler at His Home in Ithaca
Ithaca, N.Y., Feb. 1 – Hon. George W. Schuyler died here this morning aged 78 years. He was state treasurer in 1864-5, superintendent of the banking department 1866 to 1870, and was elected member of assembly as a liberal Republican in 1875 over Hon. William L. Bostwick, a popular Republican candidate in a district heavily Republican. He was a director of the First National Bank and a trustee of Cornell University at the time of his death. He leaves a large estate. He was a descendant of General Phillip Schuyler and born at Saratoga. For a lifetime he has been prominent in state politics as a Whig and Republican until 1872 and thereafter as a Democrat.
From Find A Grave member # 64322703:
The most enduring project he ever undertook was his life's passion the compilation of the genealogy of the Schuyler families in America. it has been the Bible for his descendants since the two volumes were published in 1885 by Charles Scribner's Sons, NY.
It was a massive undertaking. Addressing not only the Schuylers but the families that they married into. He also included Bible records. Anyone desiring to know ANYTHING about these families should be directed to this book. It is amazing what he could accomplish without a computer. Mind boggling! George Washington Schuyler must have been a truly brilliant man. A genius.
