Jonathan Wyckoff, a life resident of the Town of Onondaga, died at the Homopathic Hospital in Syracuse, Saturday, September 3, 1921, at the age of 75 years. He had been a patient there only three days. He was the oldest son of Austin G. and Rebecca Eggleston Wyckoff, and was born March 28, 1846, at Navarino, on the farm now owned by Christopher Wyckoff, and spent almost half his life in that village.
January 27, 1869, he married Emma Jeanette Beebe of Marellus, and a short time afterward he purchased the farm now owned by Michael McAullffe, where he lived until he gave up farming a few years ago and moved to Onondaga Valley. In earlier years, he was well known localally as a politician. During the years of 1884 and 1885, he was the Supervisor of the Town of Onondaga, and later served as member of the Assembly, in 1893, and 1894. He was a charter member of Excelsior Grange, which was organized in 1882 and always very active in his interest. He was a master of Onondaga County Pomona Grange from 1899 until 1901.
After he moved to Onondaga Valley he became connected to the Farmer's and Trader's Life Insurance Company in Syracuse, which position he held until his death. His funeral was held Wednesday afternoon, September 7, at the home of his sister, Mrs. E.J. Carter in Navarino. The Rev. F.W. Betts of Syracuse conducted the services and Mrs. Walker of Syracuse sang. Burial was made at Pine Ridge Cemetery.
Many out of town friends were present and there were many pretty flowers. Relatives left to mourn his loss are two daughters, Mrs. F.G. Clements of Damascus, Va; and Mrs. C.A. Baker of Hammonton, NJ; one sister, Mrs. E.J. Carter; one brother, Austin G. Wyckoff of Navarino, and four grandchildren.
