Walter Scott Alexander was born March 13, 1847, at the old homestead in Wells Valley. He was the fourth of nine children in a family of nine children born to John Bradley Alexander and Rebecca (Moore) Alexander. On his 41st birthday, March 18,1888, he married Nettie Louise Gibson, the youngest daughter of the late Hon. Mark Dickson.
To them were born three children, the oldest and the youngest dying in infancy.
Walter Scott Alexander was raised on a farm and knew what farm work meant. He attended school and fitted himself for teaching, which he followed for some years in Saluvia, McConnellsburg,PA. and Marietta, Ohio. He learned the printing trade and sometime in the 1870s he acquired the Fulton Republican, which he sold after a short time. In the meantime he had fitted himself for the bar, to which he was admitted Oct 19, 1870. He continued in this practice until his failing health compelled him to give it up.
He was very popular and was elected District Attorney of the county on the Republican ticket, a position he held for three years. In mid-1850s he resettled, in McConnellsburg. In 1886 he was elected State senator for the district, which included Fulton, Bedford and Somerset Counties, for four years.
He was an active member of the Presbyterian Church, and for more than 30 years a member of Everett Lodge of Freemasons, as well as many bar associations.
The Hon. Walter Scott Alexander passed away at 12:30a.m., Wednesday Dec 4, 1912, at his home on East Water St. He had been in ill health, suffering from arthritis, and although always cheerful, he was confined to his house for fourteen months.
He leaves to survive him his widow, and one daughter, Miss Maria Dickson Alexander, and two brothers, William A.of Everett and Horace B. of Brule, Nebraska; two sisters, Mrs. Thomas F.Sloan and Miss Hattie Alexander of this place.
Interment will take place at the Presbyterian cemetery of this town, Wednesday, Dec 6, 1912.
