LOUIS B. Blissard, 84, a former U.S. attorney for Hawaii, died Tuesday.
He was also a lawyer in private practice.
U.S. District Judge Samuel P. King said: "Gen. Lou Blissard was a great patriot, a strong and effective United States attorney, an excellent lawyer, a devoted parent and husband, and my friend.
"When we were both younger, we used to lunch together from time to time at the Pearl Harbor Naval Officers' Club. I always enjoyed it when he drove into a parking space reserved for general officers, but Lou Blissard never let his rank and accomplishments affect his behavior. He was a modest gentleman."
He was legal adviser to the U.S. Veterans Administration office and enforcement director for the Hawaii branch of the former Office of Price Stabilization.
Blissard was a veteran of World War II. He had more than six years of active service and was commander of "Maui's Own" Fourth Marine Division. He retired as a brigadier general.
