George Byron Chandler was born in Bedford NH, his father was Adam Chandler and his mother was Sally Chandler nee' McAllister.
As a young man he worked the famlly farm and came to Manchester to work. He started as a clerk, then became a bookkeeper and started in a bank, Amoskeag Nationak as a bookeeper, the was quickly promoted to Cashier and finally it's president. He sat on many Board of Directors' of many Banks and other affluent organizations. He married Flora Daniels in 1862. Flora died giving birth to their daughter Flora on May 31, 1868, little Flora died 8 weeks later July 15, 1868.
Two years later he married Fannie Rice Martin, daughter of wealthly Amoskeag Paper Mill owner Benjamin F. Martin, and his wife was Mary Martin nee' Rice. They had three children Bryon, Alexander and Benjamin. Alexander died 11/21/1878 and is buried with Mr. Chandler's first wife and daughter, Valley Cemetery lot 1162.
Mr. Chandler was described as quite well to do and his house sat on an entire City block of Walnut and Myrtle St. This was also the house he lived in with his first wife.
He was known to spend lavishly and give to any good cause. Mr. Chandler died June 29, 1905 at age 73. His cause of death was chronic cystitis. His second wife Fanny and son Bryon are resting with him. His Henry Chandler and his family are resident in the next lot.
