History Of Major Philip Coleman Pendleton
One of the first settlers of Tebeauville (Ware County, Ga) was Mr. Philip C. Pendleton. This well known newspaper man was born in Putnam County, Georgia in 1812.
His father, Coleman Pendleton, (wife Martha Gilbert) came to Georgia in about 1807 from Culpepper County, Virginia and settled in the then new county of Putnam County, Ga.
** Coleman Pendleton was born August 4, 1780 to Philip Pendleton and Martha Awbrey in Culpepper, Virginia.[1]
He married Martha GIlbert on June 6, 1808 in Putnam County, Georgia.[2] Their children were:
- Louisa Emily Pendleton b. 1809, GA; d. May 10, 1881, Chambers Co., AL.
- William Robert Pendleton b. Mar 09, 1811, Putnam Co., GA; d. Jul 07, 1841, Baker Co., GA.
- Philip Coleman Pendleton b. Nov 17. 1812, Eatonville, GA; d. Jun 19, 1869, Valdosta, GA
- Edmund Monroe Pendleton b. Mar 19, 1815, Eatonton, GA., died Jan. 26, 1884, Atlanta, GA.

He married Catherine Sarah Melissa Tebeau on November 23, 1841 in Savannah, Chatham County, Georgia, whose father was the Grand- Nephew of John Adam Trentland (first Governor of Georgia) and whose mother was Hulda Lewis of New York, into whose family Betty, (the sister of George Washington) married and whose descendants now own George Washington's two swords.
He was grandson of Phillip Pendleton and Martha Awbrey of Virginia.
The Pendleton family goes back to Philip Pendleton born 26 Mar 1654 Norwich, Norfolk, England came to Virginia Colony married Isabella Hurt. (They had 10 children. )
Martha Awbrey comes the Awbrey goes back John Awbrey who came with wife Jane to Virginia Colony in 1690s. The Pendleton and Awbrey family can be trace back England
