A native of Monroe County, he was born Dec. 10, 1889, the son of Henry J. and Catherine Baird Feltus. His father had established the Bloomington Courier in 1875, and the son was editor and publisher of the Bloomington Star-Courier, a weekly newspaper, from 1920 to 1965, when it was sold. He represented thousands of weekly newspapers throughout the nation at the South Pacific atomic bomb tests in 1946.
Mr. Feltus served on the Indiana University Board of Trustees from 1934 to 1944 and again from 1949 to 1957. He was a member of the Board of Directors of the Monroe County State Bank and a past president of the Indiana Democratic Editorial Association.
He wrote several scripts for Hollywood silent movies before joining the Army Coast Artillery Corps during World War I. He was a field artillery captain in the Indiana National Guard from 1921 to 1926 and was appointed a colonel when he took command of the Fifth Infantry, Indiana State Guard, in 1941.
He was a member of Sigma Delta Chi, national professional journalism society; life member of the Elks Lodge, charter member of Burton Woolery Post 18, American Legion, former state secretary of the Kiwanis Club, member of the Reserve Officers' Association and the Wings Club of New York City.
Survivors are the wife, the former Thelma Hinkle; two daughters, Mrs. Martha Walstrum of Rochester, N. Y., and Mrs. Paula Hart of Amherst, Mass.; three grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his first wife, the former Lucille Clevenger, in 1934, and by three brothers, Harry, Roy, and John, and a sister, Mrs. Gertrude Romiser.
Funeral services will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Trinity Episcopal Church, with Father Laurence Larson officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery.
