Judge William T. Dom, Jr., 63, Dead of Heart Disease Less Than 14 Hours After Resigning From Bench.
Greensburg, Feb. 10. Less than 24 hours after resigning from the Westmoreland County Common pleas bench because of illness, William T. Dom, Jr., 63 years old, jurist, died of heart disease. Members of his family said he fell to the floor in his home a moment after he climbed a stairway to his room.
His resignation became known after his death. Relatives said he had realized that a nervous breakdown last Sept. made a complete rest imperative, and he submitted his resignation Friday night.
Judge Dom had served 13 years on the bench. He was appointed by former Governor W. C. Sproul in 1922. RE-ELECTED in 1933. A year later, Judge Dom successfully sought election to a full term and was re-elected on the Republican ticket in 1933.
Born July 10, 1872, he attended Greensburg public schools and Jefferson College. He later began the study of law and was admitted to the bar in 1896.
Before his elevation to the bench, he served two terms as district attorney, beginning in 1909 and 1914.
He was an assistant district attorney under the late Nevin A. Cort at the time of his appointment to the bench.
Judge Dom served in the Philippines with the famous "Fighting Tenth" regiment of the National Guard.
He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, an elder in the First Presbyterian Church, and a member of the Greensburg Volunteer Fire Dept.
His widow, five daughters, and one son survive. The daughters are Mrs. E. L. Caster of Shreveport, LA; Mrs. Robert McKenney of Greensburg; Mary Jane Dom, a teacher in Greensburg, Rachel and Catherine (twins), students at Pennsylvania Women's College. His son, William T. Dom, III, is an attorney in Greensburg." [Note missing from his obituary is his daughter, Isabel.
