Her paternal grandparents were Jewish immigrants from Poland. She was married thrice. She married Jack Berman in 1956. They had a daughter before divorcing in 1959. She remarried to Bertram Feinstein in 1962 and they remained married until his death from cancer in 1978. In 1980, she married Richard C. Blum until he also died from cancer in 2022. She graduated from Convent of the Sacred Heart High School in 1951 and from Stanford University in 1955 with a Bachelor of Arts in history.
