Roger F. Duffy, 81, of Shelby, N.C., formerly of Oakmont, died Saturday, March 31, 2007, in Shelby. He was born Nov. 19, 1925, in Pittsburgh. Mr. Duffy is survived by his wife of 52 years, Dorothy (Minutolo) Duffy, and his children, Suzy (Steve) Hannon, of Gastonia, N.C.; Roger F. (Heidi Olson) Duffy, of New York City; Diane (Jeffrey Birrell) Duffy, of McLean, Va.; Charles (Bonnie Hogue) Duffy, of Chevy Chase, Md.; John (Natalie Cadilhac) Duffy, of Falls Church, Va., and Cristina (Patrick) Hayes, of Shelby. Mr. Duffy also is survived by 15 grandchildren. He served in the Army during World War II in the 9th Armored Division, 27th Armored Infantry Battalion (Company B) during the Battle of the Bulge. He received, among other medals and ribbons, the Bronze Star and the Army Occupation Medal (Germany). He was a member of the unit that received the Presidential Unit Citation (Army) for St. Vith and the Presidential Unit Citation (Army for Remagen Bridgehead.) He then attended Duquesne University and he graduated with a degree in business administration. He worked as a salesman for the Joseph Ziskind Construction Co. He also was elected the first Democratic councilman and second Dmocratic mayor of Oakmont. He went on to be elected and proudly served in the State of Pennsylvania House of Representatives for 12 years. After living most of their married lives in Oakmont, Roger and Dorothy moved to Shelby in 2005. Friends and relatives are invited to attend a Mass honoring Mr. Duffy's life at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 28 in t. lrenaeus Catholic Church, Oakmont, followed by the interment of the cremains in the Oakmont-Verona Cemetery. Arrangements were handled by BURKET-TRUBY FUNERAL HOME, CREMATION & ALTERNATIVE SERVICES INC., 421 Allegheny Ave., Oakmont.
